Do you have a method for naming your creatures?
Do you have a method for naming your creatures?
I generally use Latin translations of characteristics of the creature, unless they remind me of something else, lol. Do you guys have any specific naming method?
Re: Do you have a method for naming your creatures?
I usually come up with something that sounds and looks nice.
Or I take a word or two and smush them together and change them until they become name-like.
Or if all else fails I go Warriors style. XP

I'm guilty of all of that, lol! I love doing book characters, too.

I mostly use Japanese/Latin/Italian translations of a word they remind me of. Like if their element is fire or they are animal based. Sometimes off of a character. *Pets Selene my hellhound* ..so didn't get the name from Underworld. >.>

I believe all my named ones are German words/terms. Nothing fancy. No family names or anything.

Method?
FFT.
I usually look at the creature, find the best sort of "language" to go with it, and move on from there

Re: Do you have a method for naming your creatures?
I look up name meanings that are either ironic (I named my white Pegasus Tynan when it means 'dark') or appropriate (my Telvian panther is named Namir which literally means 'panther'). When all else fails, I head over to a fantasy name generator. This one: http://www.rinkworks.com/namegen/ is great.

Re: Do you have a method for naming your creatures?
Normally I have something stuck in my head, and my creature's name ends up sounding something like it (Brugar = Brute, Caoli = Cow, Perria = Persian), Or sometimes I just go to a translator and pick out names in other languages (Cruor = Latin for blood). Other times I play with a syllable until it turns into something catchy (Tobok, Nagiba, Terril), and on occasion I name my creatures for a specific reason (Redcrest, Nylok).

Re: Do you have a method for naming your creatures?
Usually it's random fantasy names from a generator I found on Google, though sometimes I have themes. With my Enox army, they're all letters of the Greek alphabet and when I used up all the letters I started naming them sorority/fraternity names (like Zeta Tau Alpha)
