The Magician and the MagiStream

Post by TallyTachibana »

Legend tells of a great river called the MagiStream.
Many seek it, but only the few find it. No one knows how the eggs get there, but they are eggs of magic and myth. Inside each egg is a being waiting to become grown, just eagerly waiting to become the perfect examples of their species.
But nobody knows the tale.
Until now.

Long ago, there was only a single string of islands, the biggest one, at the heart of the string, was called Algoma. Inside Algoma was a large city filled with many humans and elves and magicians of all sorts. The city, Celosia, was the only civilization on Algoma or the surrounding islands for each island was either inhabitable or filled with bloodthirsty creatures told of in tales of The Great Underbeing; Chori.
Celosia’s inhabitants were ruled by a great and merciless king, King Iyar. The people loved Iyar, and they gladly gave gifts when his wife bore a baby son by the name of Iyari. A great ceremony was held for the boy’s birth. All of his twelve sisters came to dance with young suitors and magicians and people all over Celosia came to see the beautiful and charming boy.
One special magician came. The magician, told of all over Celosia for his great magic, was a best friend to the king and had been notified first. The magician planned to give his godson a great gift that would make all the others seem worthless, but what? The magician paced his room for months thinking, then one day he went out and decided what better a gift than the gift of a companion. The magician took up his staff and said the spell to make a beast out of the minerals of the earth. But something went awry with where the magician stood and a gaping hole appeared. The whole stretched and strained until it was a long and twisting crack in the earth.
The magician was so pleased with himself he decided to name the crack after the son. The Iyari Chasm was born. But the magician, just as he was about to notify the king, noticed water was filling the chasm. And with it, a horde of mysterious eggs that flowed down the newly formed river. The magician picked up an egg and held it to his ear. The egg wobbled and cracked and out came a strange creature unlike anything the magician had seen. The magician decided to call the river the MagiStream, for its magic inhabitants, and presented the prince with the creature that had come from the egg as a companion.

In the end, the magician had gifted the king, the prince, and Celosia more than a companion and a happy prince, but a river from which everyone could find their own companion.
