I wonder if there's a series out there that keeps a female protagonist from deciding that all of her previous decisions (no marriage, no kids, keep my good job, etc.) must change for the new man in her life. Maybe she could be a good person without having to change everything about herself for the 'true love' in her life? Or, can she just stay single and sucessfully friendzone everyone who tries to date her?
I think there's only been 1 that I've noticed that kept her statement about not having kids but it didn't exactly count because she was going to change her mind before learning she can't have kids anyways. It also seems like if there's anyone that ends up alone; it is usually because they have to be a terrible person. And then so many independant female characters are depicted as desperate/thirsty for men.
I cringe so hard after this shit happens that I go back to reading angry poetry instead or play choose your own adventure games where there typically isn't even an option for romance.
(I haven't kept up with a lot of media since I became tired of it all, so there's probably series that are like this but everything popular seems to follow these tropes).

Ugh, I know your pain. I would love to find just one action fantasy series with a female lead that isn't about her steamy will-they-won't-they relationship with her male best friend. If you're up for recommendations, though, I've come across a few that get parts of the formula right. I can't guarantee they'll fit what you're looking for, but they might be worth a shot if you haven't seen them before.

No/little romance:
Fear the Walking Dead
Akata Witch
Orphan Black
Hilda

Women who don't settle down:
Bojack Horseman
Avatar: The Last Airbender
The Legend of Korra
Sorcerer to the Crown
Veep
Russian Doll

Traditional roll reversal:
Glow
Schitt's Creek
Tuca and Bertie
Killing Eve

I can't vouch for them personally, but I've also heard good things about Steven Universe and Adventure Time in how they handle relationships. For some reason, animated shows tend to be a lot better about this than live-action series.

I want my Direwolves and Manticore to give me more Direcores. Is that too much to ask? D:

At least, I have 200 Gemstone Kirin hybrids. So that's done ^.^

So much yes. Every single damn female protagonist goes from "I don't need kids/man" to "omg i need a man help me" within 2 episodes time ><.

As for anime/cartoon handling relationships better than lie action...I am not surprised. Live-action usually means unnecessary sexy-time on tv just for the heck of it (because of heeyoo, more views right?) x.x

This is the reason why Sword and Sorceress started. Marian Zimmer-Bradly and a several other authors didn't like what their fellow authors (mind you this was done long time ago) protray women, even in Fantasy. They're collection of strong woman who don't need men to help them. I don't have any full novels suggestion.
