The heart is something fragile;
Easily broken but not so easily repaired.
It may mend with time but
Time is always short and fleeting.
Hearts are kind but also sad;
Easily loving but so easily hurt.
Pain and memories never fade
And they stay no matter what.
Hearts are led astray
By those who care not.
They become encased in ice;
Bitter and cold but always wanting.
Why are hearts so fragile?
We want to give but cannot forget
The pain we endured for years
To find that special someone.
So lock up our hearts;
Put them in cage.
Let them waste away,
For we need not such fragile things.
Finally a competition I can enter because poetry is something I very much love and enjoy!
