Element: Earth Image

--- Egg ---

This dark egg smells rather earthy

--- Hatchling ---

Tersha hatchlings are shy and reclusive creatures. Not having developed the earth magic that allows them the faster digging speed of an adult they are most often found above ground hiding beneath their oversized nose appendage, peeking out at the world in an almost comical way. At this age they are very cuddly and will gladly snuggle up in their magi’s lap or burrow into a warm pocket. As they grow into their appendage they start to become a little snappy. You can always tell a magi with a growing tersha by the small bandages on their fingers.

--- Adult ---

With its colourful nose decoration and its silky soft fur one would be tempted to pet or cuddle a tersha. This would be a mistake. Although dark tersha are more docile than their golden cousins they still can give a serious nip to any hand that comes too close. Even well trained tersha can react on instinct if their nasal appendage is brushed, so it pays to be careful around them. Their ability to use earth magic to swim through the earth at high speed make them attractive to magi for a variety of reasons. A well trained tersha can use its burrowing technique to shift the ground into patterns that are as captivating as their butterfly shaped noses.

--- General ---

Those who have stumbled across an intricate design in the earthen floor of a woodland glen are often amazed at the detailed design. The fact that it also seems filled with landed butterflies also adds to the mystique. Those who know better run the other way. An adult tersha can carve large detailed designs in the earth that are so intricate they almost seem hypnotic. They sometimes gather in groups to create a carpet of mesmerising patterns, sitting just beneath the surface with their butterfly-like nose appendage twitching and fluttering on the ground as a temptation. When this is touched even lightly, a tersha will immediately burst out of the ground with jaws open and large claws flying to capture and devour whatever creature was unfortunate enough to be lured close. On special occasions Magi have trained this rather beautiful creature to make stunning designs and displays in gardens and public spaces – though the saying 'keep off the grass' has an entirely different meaning when it was decorated by a tersha.

Death Screamer Image

Element: Light Image

--- Egg ---

The soft screaming sound coming from this egg gives you a feeling of dread.

--- Hatchling ---

With large softly furred bodies, death screamer hatchlings are quite adorable and seem to enjoy having their furry bodies stroked and petted. With an attraction to sweet things they can quickly be trained to come to a magi when called. It is often quite comical to see a magi wandering along with a number of insistent fluttering juvenile screamers on their shoulders and arms hissing and squeaking in excitement of an impending sweet treat. They are generally tolerated by those around them with indulgent smiles, especially when they are practicing their light magic - creating little balls of light and giving the impression of a glittering collection of fairy lights. As they grow older death screamers perfect this light magic creating a large lasting ball of soft glowing light.

--- Adult ---

With bodies as long as an adult magi's hand, these large insects certainly stand out around the Keep. Unlike cute hatchlings, adult death screamers are less tolerated - often looked at with a spark of fear by non magi folk. Magi also have learned to treat adult screamers with respect. They are quite intelligent and also can develop quite a nasty sense of humour. It is not unknown for a death screamer to use its glowing light to trick a person into thinking they are following someone through the halls, only to leave them suddenly in the dark. Their shrieking cries can be quite unnerving and can make a person feel anxious or nervous when the soft drawn out cries wail in the dead of night. It is not unheard of for a death screamer to softly land on someone's back and give a loud scream causing the person to add their own cry of fear, only to flutter away with a hiss that sounds eerily like laughter.

--- General ---

Death screamers have gained their name for their unusual wing markings. During the day they are no more remarkable than any other moth. At night, however, a glowing shape forms on their large wings which eerily looks reminiscent of a screaming skull. The fact that they do make a shrill screaming sound when agitated also adds to this spooky reputation. Despite this they are in fact harmless in themselves having no teeth or claws. Their greatest danger comes from their ability to create a glowing ball of light that surrounds them as they fly along. Probably a defence against night vision predators it has the unfortunate appearance of someone holding a lantern in the dark. Unwary travellers who follow this light off the main road can be led further and further into the dark woods. The sudden fading of the light and a horrifying deathly scream their only clue that they have been following a ghost-light and are now hopelessly lost.

Element: Neutral Image

--- Egg ---

This wet egg has mushrooms growing on and around it.

--- Hatchling ---

Deadwood deer hatchlings never leave the swamps. They are too fragile and too shy to set foot out of their territory. They spend the time instead exploring the swamp, learning it inside out, and slowly discovering how people affect nature. A cut tree here and a poached animal there do not give the right idea to the little hatchlings. They become territorial and dislike people for the most part. It would take extensive training for the deer to give up on this conception, and most of the time, people are not too keen to approach them. Even so, there are a few select magi who take an interest in these creatures and do so knowing the hatchlings will use their magic to show the magi's true intentions with them. If the magi is pure at heart, the deadwood deer will accept that it was wrong and come to tolerate the person. If not, the hatchling will have its original thoughts confirmed: that people are evil.

--- Adult ---

Deadwood deer are very territorial and easily get offended by those who dare step into their swamps. Despite this, the deer have no problem trespassing on farms, staring inside rooms at sleeping people in the middle of the night. They return to the same place many nights as if they are waiting for something to happen. The only way to get rid of these deer is to ask them for small favors. It is a strange concept for the deer to leave after granting a small wish, but it appears to be the truth. People are always happy after meeting the swamp deer: their gardens bloom at the end of autumn, their food tastes better than ever, and their children are on their best behavior. What no one talks about is the aftermath. When granting a favor, the deadwood deer plants a seed inside one's soul. Depending on the things asked and seeds planted, people start acting differently. Those who are selfish will start doubting their neighbors, be paranoid about others wishing them misfortune, or lie about the smallest things. While those who had good intentions will become more rational, think with a clear head, or be kinder to one another. Even after the deadwood deer are long gone, their influence remains. People return to their normal selves only after the winter passes. Those touched by the deer will have to either live with the guilt of their actions or be proud of the things accomplished. Either way, the deadwood deer are satisfied with the result, waiting patiently in their swamps for the next harvest season.

--- General ---

The swamps hide many things: trees, murky water, strange lights that appear in the dead of the night, bugs, animals, and undead creatures. The deadwood deer fall in the last category. These creatures have a strange - although uncanny - beauty. Their bodies are made of dead wood, mushrooms, and odd lights that flicker intermittently. They make no sound and would appear peaceful if it were not for the shrieking faces on the deer's body or the glowing eyes. People say the deadwood deer are an odd mix of dead trees swallowed by the water and the spirits of wandering deer trapped inside the logs, with the mushrooms growing on their bodies being the only things alive. Whichever may be the case, there are many scary stories about the deadwood deer, the conclusion always being that people should fear them. They are not as spooky as people paint them to be, but their magic is feared even by some magi. The deadwood deer have the power to reveal a person's true nature, be it good or bad. The true face of a person is shown, and people fear the consequences of the truth more than the deer themselves. Some might find the idea of asking the deadwood deer for help offensive, but there still are cases when only a deadwood deer can reveal the truth about a person.

Scarecrow Gryphon Image

--- Egg ---

Bits of scrap cloth and thread gravitate towards this grey egg.

--- Hatchling ---

Scarecrow gryphon hatchlings start scrounging around for cloth, needles, thread, and any other sewing supplies they can get their claws on almost as soon as they are hatched, and start assembling small pieces of clothing for themselves with surprising dexterity within the day. Magi raising one might be alarmed to see their hatchling scrambling about with a sharp needle in their beak, but watching one work is enough to allay any fears. Scarecrow gryphons seem to have minor telekinesis abilities, but only relating to their sewing work, allowing them to levitate needles, thread, and cloth to help their task along. Their first attempts at clothes for themselves are often rudimentary, and the little gryphon chicks will often chatter irritably as they pull the work apart, reassembling it into something better. This process continues as they grow, which they do so with great speed, and so scarecrow gryphons are never quite pleased with their outfit until they are fully grown.

--- Adult ---

Scarecrow gryphons are not considered fully grown until they have finished assembling a full outfit for themselves, and then they will find a patch of crop field to claim as their own, strutting about proudly, aggressively fending off any invaders. Strangely, they seem to recognize the human tenders of the field as helpful, and will grudgingly allow farmers to tend and harvest their crops, as long as they are left a portion of the crop. This means they are generally well tolerated, as the protection of a scarecrow gryphon usually leads to far larger harvests in the long run.

--- General ---

With the head of a crow and the body of a cat, scarecrow gryphons are so named because they always claim a patch of farm field as a food source, which they then defend from pests through the strange ritual of assembling themselves intimidating costumes. Wild scarecrow gryphons often live up to their name, with costumes assembled from thorn needles, corn fluff thread, and "cloth" scavenged from animal hides and bark. However, those raised at the Keep often have magi friends who offer them finer materials to work with, and with encouragement, can assemble themselves rather splendid costumes. With some pointers and bribes, some scarecrow gryphons can even be convinced to make costumes for their magi friend, and are some of the finest tailors around after a lot of trial and error.

Decaying Mawdragon Image

Element: Neutral Image

--- Egg ---

The creature inside this egg is definitely not alive.

--- Hatchling ---

Mawdracon hatchlings are not a pretty sight. They are small, smell like rotting flesh, and very much not alive. However, they are wiggly and very loud for their size. The hatchlings are restless until they find a source of magic - be it a creature or a potion bottle. They grow rapidly, in accordance with the amount of magic they absorb. The more magic they ingest, the faster they grow. Sometimes, mawdracons hatch in the morning and grow entirely by the end of the day. If they are isolated and find no source of magic, the hatchlings will become inert and remain like that until another spell is released nearby or a magical creature passes by. This is one of the many benefits of being dead: the mawdracons cannot die from the lack of magic.

--- Adult ---

Despite their disturbing looks, some mawdracons live around magi. They are beneficial when casting bigger spells. If something goes awry, the mawdracons can absorb the magic. They are also helpful when capturing wild, magical creatures, as it does not involve force. However, it does not mean that the mawdracons like having a master. They are free creatures and have no desire to obey someone's command. Their only purpose is to feed and endure through time. Those who deal with the mawdracons have to be very careful as these creatures can and will absorb all magic, a magi's one included. Keeping the mawdracons away from the Keep is a difficult task, especially during festivities when everyone gathers and shows off their magic and creatures. To prevent a swarm of decaying mawdracons from invading the castle, those in charge have to cast life magic spells, as this is the type of magic that attracts the decaying mawdracons the most. As for the spectral mawdracons, things can become trickier. They love potions more than spells. No one is willing to give away their precious gender or breeding potions, so most of the time, it is the dusky potions that get discarded.

--- General ---

Magic is fickle, and not everyone is as good at it as they claim to be. There are cases when spells get out of hand and backfire, and there are times when spells do not work at all for unknown reasons. When this happens - and the energy gets released into the space around the caster - some things get affected by it. Sometimes plants wither or bloom uncontrollably, sometimes things get broken, and other times surrounding creatures get affected and changed by it. The mawdracon is the result of one such instance of magic not working right. It is not a dragon, a desgolo, a daycrawler, or a nightcrawler, but an entirely new species that has aspects of all these creatures together. The mawdracons are not alive, although they exist. They feed on magic and seek it mindlessly, their only intent being to stay alive. They are not malevolent, but they are parasites and act accordingly. Fortunately, they absorb only as much magic as they need to survive, and so far, no creature has come to its demise because of the mawdracons.

It's official, the Tersha is really creepy. The Scarecrow Gryphon is somewhat creepy, but I am digging that deer. Happy Halloween everyone. I also realized that Gifting can help me get rid of breeding disappointments too. Nice.
The Wishlist in my profile is outdated (I can't quite figure out how to edit it now, so many of the creatures there have already been obtained).

Gift ideas: Really am looking for a Varja Crystalwing for future breeding of pygmies and Gemdragons.

it's random, you usually have to drink several before one will drop when there's an item or creature available through the event drink. also it will change your text if you've imbibed any of remy's offerings (while the fx are still floating around your screen) to the "drunk" speech, even if it looks normal when you're typing ;) you can turn it off/go back to normal immediately by purchasing a coffee ("remy's special brew") from him or just wait until the fx stop (the screen confetti)
(pronouns: they/them)
.

<3 clicks appreciated (to hatchling only please) <3
