—- Egg ——

This egg shines beautifully in the sunlight.

—- Hatchling —-

Sailipsids are harmless until they reach adulthood. They lack the teeth and claws to hunt on their own and rely on their parents to provide for all their needs. While light sailipsids hatch from their eggs during any time of the day - as long as the sun is up and unhidden by clouds - the dark ones only hatch during the full moon. Because of this, the dark sailipsids are rarer than the light ones and more sought after by magi. While most light hatchlings are found in the wild, the majority of dark ones are kept in unique environments. Here they can be looked after not only by sailipsid adults but by magi as well, in an attempt to keep them safe from predators.

—- Adult —-

Adult sailipsids vary in size, some as small as a house cat while others can reach a grown man's shoulder. Although not proven, everyone agrees that their size is influenced by the time spent by the sailipsids in sunlight, respectively in moonlight. Some would expect the bigger sailipsids to be more powerful, and while this is true for their strength, all the sailipsids hold the same amount of magical power. These creatures prefer to be left alone in the wild rather than be around humans, but even so, they are great companions on long journeys. They provide security, and the larger ones can be used as mounts - if one does not mind being constantly poked in the back by the creature's large sail. Their desire to hunt often can be an impediment if a magi is in a rush, but nothing can be done when the sailipsid is hungry and decides to take a detour from the path so it can feed.

—- General —-

Sailipsids are fierce creatures considered by many to be apex predators once they are adults. They usually hunt in groups and take down animals double in size, consuming everything, bones included. While the adults are feared by all, the hatchlings are defenseless. Many creatures hunt the hatchlings, making their survival rate low if no adults are around. The sailipsids rely heavily on their sharp teeth and claws, as their magic manifests only years after maturing. It can sometimes take as long as ten years for a sailipsid to awaken its magic. They have control over earth magic, causing landslides at will. Although rarely, they can also create the effect of quicksand. While they have the same power over earth magic, the sailipsids come in two varieties. The light type, which is the most common of the two, has brighter scales that shine yellow in the sun. On the other hand, the dark kind has darker scales that shine in different shades of green during nighttime.

The eggs look cool! Hmm, Sailipsid, sail + synapsid maybe? I wonder if it will be a Dimetrodon or something.
