why do people prefer the code format? Does it make it easier to click?

No, but it's easier to copy/paste the codes onto other websites and forums, etc.
If you use the select all button, you can copy all the codes in that box. And if you paste it in the full editor and click 'preview', you can see all the image links and click from there. I hope I answered your question?
