August Contest : Short Story
Posted: August 1st, 2014, 12:39:57 am
"Greetings, students and professors of the Keep. I received a letter recently that may interest you all, especially those of you who are intrigued by the newest additions to the Keep, the Chinchillas.
Here is the letter:"
“To the mages at the Keep,
Recently I have heard about those who practice magic. I raise magical creatures of my own, and I am interested in how those of you do the same.
You can consider me an anthropologist. I am very interested in your lives at the Keep—how you raise your creatures, how you go about your daily routines, and about your cultures and traditions. I would be very grateful if you would send me small stories about how you spend your summers at the Keep.
Of course, no survey is without compensation. I will reward the most interesting story with a creature from my own collection. I hope you think Chinchillas are as cute as I do!
Hopefully, we can begin a tradition of our own as I learn about your culture.
Sincerely,
Emander Tyris"
"So, students. I do hope we can help this person with their research. Perhaps this month, we can collect stories of how we spend our summer days, just as they asked. And perhaps each month we can share a different aspect of our culture and lives here at the Keep. Let us collect our stories quickly, so that we can send them within the month.
First, I will lay down some rules."
August Contest: Short Story
Theme: Summer at the Keep
Length: Between 200 and 2000 words
Entries open: August 1st
Entries close: August 20th
Prize: Wild Fox Chinchilla
Judging completed and prize awarded on August 25th
Errata rules: Members of the MS team are not eligible for prizes, although they may enter. Winners of the DP prize will not be eligible to win again for two months.
"If you have any questions, let us know in this thread. Of course, if writing a story isn’t how you want to share your experiences at the Keep, you can take a look at the poll. You can vote for what kind of contest you'd like to see in the future. Or if none appeal, you can suggest a type of contest you'd like to see in this thread too. We can suggest all sorts of ways of sharing information about our Keep. I'm sure they will have interesting prizes for us in the future.
Good luck, and have fun writing your stories!"
