New anti-spambot measure
Posted: September 6th, 2013, 7:04:31 pm
I've just made some changes to the site that will hopefully cut down on the posts by spambots by a lot. Anyone newly registered to the site will now have to post in a specific forum before they can post anywhere else. After a single post in that forum, people will be turned into regular users and can post wherever they want.
If you were already registered before this change, nothing changes for you. You won't even be able to see any change since you don't have access to the forum newly registered accounts need to post in.
However, if you just registered and wonder why you cannot post anywhere, please go to the forum called "IF YOU ARE NEW, YOU MUST POST HERE!" and either create a new topic there or reply to an existing one. Since posts in that forum will get deleted automatically after a short while and no one except new accounts and admins can see it, it doesn't matter at all what you post.
Since a lot of spambots put links into their signature, part of this is also that you cannot use signatures unless you have made that initial post and activated your account fully.
If anyone has questions or encounters problems that might be related to this change, please let me know. Let's all hope spam posts will be far less common from now on.
