Ah, I can tell you beforehand, Macross series don't really do direct continuity. There may be vague references (like how Sheryl's grandmother is one of the characters in Macross/Zero OVA) and Easter eggs, but so far into the franchise, there has never been direct continuity between different installments of the franchise and you can watch each installment without any previous knowledge - I've seen most of it, save for Macross 7, which I can't get through because I HATE the main char. So, uh, you should expect that, most likely, you won't see any of the characters from previous installments returning.

That said, in the most recent ep (4 eps have come out now, new eps come out on Sunday evenings Japanese time) there was a small, nice shoutout to all the previous idols of the franchise. So nostalgic.

Favorite anime? Oh gosh there have been so many that I have loved but Id probably have to pick Sword Art Online hands down.

Least favorite anime? Fairy Tail. Its all a bunch of random nonsense and silly dramatic emotions and things through out the whole show. I tried so hard to give it a try but I fell asleep several times.

How did you get into anime? I was in elementary school and my parents just got cable TV and I was instantly hooked To Dragon Ball Z and the other shows Toonami aired.

What anime are you really enjoying currently? Right now Im watching Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans

Favorite anime? Monster. I can't say enough words to describe how amazing is Monster and just as an anime. It is the best thriller series I have ever watched. Amazing narrative, amazing characters, amazing art, music, suspense, everything. And it takes place in late 20th century Europe so there's another bonus for European fans. I also strongly recommend another work by the same author - 20th Century Boys. It's cosmic but it doesn't exist in the form of anime. There is a manga and there is a live-action adaptation in three movies. These things usually suck but this particular adaptation is very good.
And I absolutely adore all Ghibli movies, especially Mononoke Hime and Howl's Moving Castle.

Least favorite anime? Mirai Nikki. I haven't watched all that many anime but this one goes without comment. It is absolute bs and has the most disgusting characters ever to exist in fiction. And you are supposed to rote for them. I won't ponder too much on this one.

How did you get into anime? Well... Cough... Naruto. Not going to lie there. I never finished it, though, since it is absolutely tedious and since I was hyped about it as a kid. I watch only short anime now.

What anime are you really enjoying currently? The last anime I saw was Natsume's Book of Friends and it was unexpectedly delightful. An amazing threat for the eyes and for the soul since it is very bitter-sweet and touching. Great stuff.
Other anime I recommend: Shiki (best tale about vampires) and Ergo Proxy (I can't pitch this one since it's very strange but it's great). Claymore is also pretty good as an adventure though I strongly recommend reading the manga.

@Niverdia: Yuri! On Ice sounds delightful. I looked it up and was surprised that it wasn't in fact, Yuri . Damn misleading title.

@PeterCamenzind: There is nothing to be ashamed about Naruto introducing you to anime. Technically my first ever anime was Yu-Gi-Oh. I didn't know it at the time but I loved it (and still love YGOTAS).
Oh, Mirai Nikki. I thought it was hilarious at times even though I never understood why people liked Yuno as in genuinely liked her and thinking she was still kind of a hero. And people claiming they want Yuno as a girlfriend. Yeah, great idea, my friend, great idea. But I do have the same problem with Lucy from Elfen Lied although Lucy isn't the only problem that anime has . Now Elfen Lied has some creepy and disgusting bastards, I swear.
I am a little bit afraid of tackling Monster since it has quite a lot of episodes but it is definitely on my to-watch-list.

Oh God, I am fairly sure I wasn't supposed to laugh at the last two episodes of Another but damn, those deaths (and some not-deaths) were just hilarious. So much narm. And I still don't quite get why the innkeeper totally lost it... oh well.
Kinda sad that the first part of the anime was rather strong with the mystery and then they ended it in such a over the top gory splatter movie way
