On whose authority will you enforce these Coalition rules? There's no site standard for prices. It seems like an invitation to harassment to me.

Because, we aren't trying to enforce these prices throughout the Merchant District, or anywhere else for that matter. We will be enforcing them in our shop (as do all other shops who have set prices) and hoping that the prices will someday leak into the MD due to the constant flow of fair prices on creatures

And Sicksoul, please don't sound rude or anything. I like having these....potential problems and whatnot sorted out before the shop is opened

Well, you seem like you're saying these rules you're setting up are what everybody should follow. But you can't enforce that outside of your own shop. If no one outside your Coalition agrees and prices stay the same, what will you do? And I'm thinking of people who will take it too far, as someone inevitably will, and telling people who don't agree that they have to follow your rules too. That's where the harassment thing comes in.

It all just seems like it'll cause a big clash between the Coalition and those of us who set our prices fluidly; and let's face it, as an MD mod I don't want fights erupting over pricing.

I don't have hundreds of thousands of gold to spend. I make my gold by mining and occasionally selling creatures. Unless you are looking to buy DPs, you shouldn't need hundreds of thousands of gold to play here.

Deciding that you have the only fair prices in the MD is doing a disservice to other players. By claiming that others are unfair, you aren't giving them a chance to make gold and buy the creatures that they want, because yes, people will flock to you as a source of creatures. But will they see you as fair, or as just cheap?

Its fair. What we are trying to do is find a happy medium.
We wont be selling things stupidly low. But not stupidly high.
We are not trying to take buisness away from people, we are trying to set a price on the coalition shop that seems fair in the eyes of people. Which is why data collected here will be looked at.

I guess I can understand Shai and Sochi's concern over harassment. However, I think they are missing a rather obvious qualifier: This is GamingGal's Coalition Shop, not an attempt to make a list for the MD to abide by. She will enforce what she feels is right (buying and reselling) within her own controlled shop, and that is her right as owner of the shop. Hers, and whomever she works with. She is hardly likely to go to Yui's or GrowlingCupcake's or mine or SickSoul's selling threads and go, "Too high, lower it!" because, duh, that's against the rules.

But within her own shop? She's allowed to do that. If she wants to go to Growling and buy an Imp for 25k and sell it to Newb A for 10k, she can do that.

If she goes to someone and PMs them, "hey, 20 people said that's too high" then come down on her, but don't try to tell her she's breaking rules before she does it.

Besides, there's the "How Much Is It Worth?" thread, which, while not something set in stone people have to obey, is STILL a suggestion thread for proper prices the majority agree on. And what's the difference here, Shai, Sochi?

Not to mention I'm tired of people saying, "That may cause problems." EVERYTHING *may* cause problems! Would you have us do nothing, just so something may not happen?

EDIT: And if she's the cheapest around, so? Wal-Mart makes a whole ton of money for being the "cheapest" and it's legal and fair. But it didn't put Hobby Lobby or whatever out of business.

I'm not saying these rules are for everyone to follow. Not in the least. There are plenty of others out there with fair prices and whatnot. The only things we are "fighting" are those that sell creatures for way overinflated prices. Even then, we aren't going to throw our prices at them and tell them to use them. We will adjust our prices every month, though, to try and stay fluid with Doni pricing

Again, I'm not saying we have the only fair prices. There are plenty others who have fair prices as well.

I'm hoping we come across as fair, not cheap. We're hoping to sell at a happy median, not too low and not too high.

Your Wal-Mart analogy is also flawed; Wal-Mart puts plenty of smaller stores out of business, the ones that aren't a big name with lots of money behind them.

EDIT: As for fighting overly high prices, they don't often sell anyway. Sure, someone can price their named Cinersi at 750K if they want, but no one is actually going to pay that much.

If that's so, then that, sadly, is the Law of the Jungle. Would you deny Gaming her right to sell for cheap, *because* it would "put others' out of business"? How is that fair to her, in return?

And, no, I didn't say you were accusing her of anything, and also note I'm responding to more than one person at once, and also cautioning people to not accuse her. I didn't say anyone did, I said please make sure you don't.

As for 'human nature' that's also sadly the way of the world. But saying someone can't do something because someone else might abuse it down the road puts us in a deadlock and does nothing for anyone. If someone had gone to Wal-mart and told them they couldn't sell for cheap because it put Mom-and-Pop-United out of business, I don't see how that would be fair. You'd be on Mom-and-Pop's side without being impartial.

If it is the same as the How Much Is It Worth Thread, as in being a duplicate rather than a similarly-based idea implementing different procedures, then you have every right to say so and tell her to stop. But is it? I think the research is the same, but it is still a shop. She's collecting data in a manner similar, asking for a majority opinion rather than the 9 people who regularly go to the Much thread.

I'm not asking my questions as a Mod. I am asking as a player who sells things in the MD. If I don't agree on a price I see in the HMIIW thread, I don't use that price, whether it's because I find it too high or too low. What bothers me is the implication that because I set a higher price, it is unfair, just because it is different from what they have set. I do set a high value on certain DPs. I do agree that Old Crystal Wings are worth what they've been sold at. Just because the value of a creature in gold was once X, doesn't mean it should always stay X, or even rise at a steady rate over time.

I don't have a set in stone price list. I find them ridiculous. If the next quest asks for a gold gryphon and I have extra to sell, then I will set a price that I feel is fair, based on the selling prices I see at that time. The Coalition has said they want to influence prices in the rest of the MD. I feel that they aren't looking at the entire MD and how prices flow up and down based on time, demand, and popularity.

I'm not saying your higher price would be unfair. Not in the least.

We are going to take into consideration the MD and the constant rise and fall of prices and we will adjust our prices constantly to fit such rise and fall.

My only mod-related comment was on not wanting more fights in the MD over pricing; nowhere did I say GamingGal is not allowed to open a Coalition Shop. As long as she follows the rules, she can do whatever she likes.

Shai and I are players who happen to be mods. Neither of us are telling any of you not to do what you're doing; we're bringing up our reservations about it. Being a mod happens to influence those reservations for me, along with not wanting to lose gold because other people are selling for what I see as too cheap. I try to set fair prices and not price-gouge because I don't see the point in ripping off other players. I just want to be free to set my prices without other people trying to influence them.
