I'm trying to pick apart the name but its not making any sense when I try to google what I come up with (if its named after a real insect like how Coati's were literally named, Coati)

Somni-ant. That's a queen ant up there, or a male drone. And "somni" is probably from or related to somnolence - sleepiness.

edit: Actually, most queens lose their wings after they breed and form a colony; wouldn't it be interesting if after breeding these, they lost their wings?

Then again, I think the males die after breeding, and having the males dying off every time we bred them would be a pain. Imagine the havoc it would play with lineages!
