For those of you for porn:
What is your preferred media? I can't really get into written porn. I need a visual.
What are your views on porn, in general? Sometimes it makes me laugh but usually it's a stress reliever or just something to do. I can't really uh, you know...unless I make myself believe that they actually love each other. So yeah.
When did you start reading/watching/writing porn? Spring Break, last year.
What type do you watch/read/write? (Gay, straight, lesbian, bisex, fantasy, etc.) Gay, Straight, Lesbian.
General:
Do you feel that straight porn represents women, or even men, in an unrealistic way? Sometimes. I think it all depends on what's going on and that virgins would get the wrong idea of what sex is actually like.
Do you feel that porn is damaging to our youth? See above.
In your opinion, is porn a good way to bond? (Friends, Spouses, etc.)
Personal: (not necessary, just wondering if there is a link between age, location, orientation and/or gender, and opinions)
How old are you? Eighteen.
What gender are you? Female.
What is your sexual preference? Pansexual.
What general area of the world are you in? US.

Re: Porn - Yea or Nay?
Call me strict, but I'm against it.
(And if you really knew me, I'm not strict. LOL.)
I hope you don't get upset at me, but this is my personal opinion. >_<
Why are you against it? In my mind, pornography is belittling. When enough people look at pornography, they begin to form an image of what the "perfect woman" (or even man) should look like. This annoys more than anything. (Being a girl) I'm not as skinny as those girls. Granted, I'm only fourteen, but it just irritates me when people think that women aren't "marriage material" if they don't have perfect curves. Plus, pornography ruins families. I have an uncle who is into it, and he never pays any attention to his wife-- because she doesn't have the "perfect body". It's just sad... I don't mean it rudely, but I think it is.
Are there religious bases in your refusal to divulge? Well, my religion does teach that pornography ruins families and is not a good thing to get into. I can see why they say it, too.
Are there only certain types of porn that you are against? No, I find all of it vulgar.
What are your views on porn, in general? It's irritating, and makes me feel like I'm not perfect, and nobody will like me for it. Yes, again, I'm not at full maturity yet, still being a teenager, but some people just aren't born with those "perfect bodies", and it simply makes me feel looked down on whenever I see porn in any way.
(And if you really knew me, I'm not strict. LOL.)

Yea to porn; but that doesn't mean I objectify women. (It's mostly the reason I stop watching the 'cumshot' scenes. I find it demeaning & quite frankly, disgusting.)

Placing the blame on pornography for ruined families is rather irresponsible. It takes the accountability away from the consumer and makes it appear that the individual viewing it cannot make his or her own decisions. It the individual is able to differentiate fantasy from reality, then I see no harm in engaging in the consumption of porn. If we actually took into account how much the media distorts the realistic shape and behavior of humans you probably couldn't fathom how different television, magazines, radio broadcasts, art, etc. would have to change. I'm not saying it's always a good thing, but we need to be able to take responsibility for our decisions for the most part. It's like blaming a fast food establishment for making someone overweight - if that person chose to eat there without keeping their consumption amount in check, that was their own fault.
Vulgarity also implies that something lacks sophistication, that it's tasteless. Sex is not vulgar. It's many things, but it's not inherently vulgar. There are representations of it that can certainly appear that way, but classifying every pornographic medium as vulgar somewhat a generalization.
There are also porns for all shapes, sizes, sexes, predilections, kinks; you name it, it's out there. The most available porn tends to feature very specific, very obvious types of sex, aimed at a certain demographic, but that doesn't mean you can't find something to your taste. I'm picky with it myself, but I've found my niche.
I don't mean to pick on you, and I completely understand why some folks don't want to have anything to do with pornography - I have an adult friend who feels uncomfortable discussing genitalia in a sexual manner, but who indulges me in my oftentimes uncouth conversation topics because we don't take sex too seriously. But generalization and finger pointing due to a lack of understanding or the unwillingness to try and see it from a consumer's POV is upsetting to me.

I really don't want to get into a debate, so I'll just post this.
I already know it's someone's own choice whether they indulge in porn. And sex is necessary-- I mean, humans wouldn't be here without it. But I just don't like seeing it in media and things. I also stated it was a personal opinion. You said you didn't mean to "pick on me", and that's fine, but I just have to make my point here-- I don't like porn. That is that.
Everyone has their own personal opinions, and porn doesn't always "ruin families", it's just that my uncle is a jerk, and that's the problem with porn-- if you indulge too much, it can ruin a person, especially (as you said) if they don't want to differentiate from reality and fantasy.
Again no debating, so I won't reply after this-- but I just dislike porn since it makes me feel like some things are taken too lightly. It's just my opinion. I keep saying that, but it is.

The same with saying it ruins family's,the persons choice to watch or engage in pornography is not for their family to make and if it ends up tearing a family apart it would most likely be from not seeing 'eye to eye'.

Just trying to make a discussion of this, not an argument. It's a discussion thread after all. Most people seem to plop their answers in here and nothing else...EternalFox wrote:I really don't want to get into a debate, so I'll just post this.

You have your stance, and I have mine. Some points of your stance don't seem logical to me, however, so I brought it up. I'm kind of a stickler for reasoning in here.

Re: Porn - Yea or Nay?
Okay, everyone take a deep breath and stand back from the topic a bit if it's bothering you. If you're going to make claims such as pornography ruining families and destroying body image, you need to back them up with proof whether it's your own experiences or articles on the 'net or books or other resources. If you're a proponent of pornography, you need to realize that not everyone does support it and that they too have to be given space to state their opinions and reasons for those opinions.
Until and unless we end up with a sub forum for debate, you should be prepared to understand that not everyone will accept your opinion on a given thread; they may have opposing experiences or they may have learned differently or have different resources available to them. You CANNOT post your opinion here and expect it to stand. The purpose of this forum is information exchange and debate, not a place to state your piece and then walk off (though you can certainly do that --- just don't expect others who come to do the same or to leave your opinion unchallenged).
