I have two questions, one of which is similar:
If we win, are we allowed to post the exact creature on other sites (ie, to show examples of our work or something similar -- not in contests) provided we make it clear that although we created it, MagiStream owns the rights to it?

Number two:
If we submit only the descriptions, will it be counted against us that we did not submit art?

If I draw the egg/hatchling/adult, should I make them separate images or on the same piece of paper? I need to know before I draw them.

In reguards to copyright issues:

Any creature you create (that is one you invented yourself) is your property. The CONCEPT is your property (see the argument on Thestrals in the Creature Suggestion thread for many more details.) You are, by entering the contest saying to magistream: You may use THIS VERSION of my creature and have your sprite artists sprite it, and tweak my write up to put in 'Alasre Mountains' instead of "Outer Mongolia," fix the spelling mistakes, and other wise make it fit the Magistream theme and consistent with the game and the world... and you have the right to actually post all this and use it. Otherwise it's your critter, no one but magistream can use it without your permission and you can, legally, do whatever you want with it else where. Now you CANNOT use the specific sprites someone else made of your critters. Their art is theirs... your critter is yours.

This is much more limited when you're doing a write up of a specific real or mytholigical creature (say you're doing a Duck.) You cannot tell other people they cannot draw ducks. After all you do not own ducks. The idea you post here is for a specific magical variety of duck and if people what to use other things than your idea of duck there's nothing you can do about it. You're telling magistream that they can use your idea of a duck, with all the same uses described above, but it's still your idea of the duck.

Note: This is not an 'official policy' this is simply my understanding of copyright law, which can get eyecrossingly complicated.

Several questions here (forgive me. I'm new):

By "a week" does that mean that this coming Friday is the deadline?

Can we submit art AND a story if we want or can we only choose one or the other?

If yes, is it ok to post, say, the art first then edit and add the descriptions when able?

Are you judging the quality of the art as well as uniqueness? Because I'm doing a lot lately and I'm afraid my art will suck if I rush through it. Especially when I color it. I'm still learning how to use PS to paint.

Blackstorm: Like, different colors? If so, yes.

Arcane: You can post your submissions/winners on art sites, just do not allow any other sites to use them.

Julia: That's fine. Again, just make sure that they are not officially used on any other site. And no, art is not required in the submission, since most likely the site artists will make/revamp the sprites.

Icetiger: If it's just a drawing as a reference, one page is fine, if you plan on spriting them individually, having three separate files would be better.

Guenhwyvar7373: Yes.

Fyreheart: There is no official deadline yet. You can submit either or both, it's up to you, and uploading in whatever order is within your discretion. Quality of art is not an issue, because as I said, most likely site artists will make their own version of your creature.
