Season's Greetings

Falling, falling, falling
Gentle winds blow round and round
Soft songs of snowbirds calling
As winter snow is found

On the tree tops glittering
In mounds on top of hills
Squirrels and chipmunks chittering
From the winter chills

Decorations hang on doors
On street lamps, poles, and lights
People doing holiday chores
The mood happy, cheery, and bright

Tree lights shine through windows
Spreading joy and holiday cheer
Letting everyone know
That the holidays are here

Lighting the Dark

The moon is lit, the sky is cold.
Shivers follow me everywhere I go.
White upon black, shadows against light.

The season of giving, but of also taking-
The smiles of both to greet us all.
The cold brings warmth, days spent by the fire.

Laughter and where sorrow once was,
Joy that covers the despair
The season that is a paradox in several ways.

Winter bites harsh and cruel
in it we place the holidays to bring some joy
A time of joy in the setting of despair.
