A Rainbow Connection: A Study on Gemstone Kirin Colors

Post by JustaBunny »

it has been forever since i've written a paper and my biology is also rusty please don't come for me biology friends :derp:
Abstract:
The animal kingdom is a runway of diversity, and nowhere is this more evident than in the realm of coat colors. This research delves into the realm of genes and their unexpected influence, with a particular focus on the gemstone kirins. Through an exhaustive exploration of their genome, we unravel the mysteries behind the unexpected hues and gemstone preferences of our beloved four-legged friends.

Introduction:
While dominant genes often steal the spotlight, recessive genes quietly pull the strings backstage, orchestrating a symphony of hues that leave us in awe. Both Opal and Diamond Gemstone kirins naturally exist in the wild, but in the hands of mages, there exists an entire rainbow. This research aims to understand how breeding can contribute to creating and exposing new coat colors.

Methodology:
This research involves observing a diverse array of gemstone kirins through a combination of genetic analysis, cross-breedings, and line breedings to explore the genes responsible for these stunning specimens.

Results:
Preliminary findings suggest that cross-breeding plays a pivotal role in the creation of unconventional coat colors. Breeding Diamond x Diamond and Opal x Opal never result in anything but the original kirin. However, by breeding Diamond x Opal, not only are the offspring Diamond or Opal, but we gain the additional Aquamarine, Ruby, and Peridot variations. Through our subsequent breeding investigations, we have discovered that breeding the original creature back to the same creature (Aquamarine x Aquamarine, Ruby x Ruby, and so on), there is never any variation in creature. The offspring remains the same as the parents. However, once again, when cross-breeding at the second-generation occurs, we are able to get Citrine, Tanzanite, and Alexandrite kirins.

Discussion:
This research is particularly curious as it seems that cross-breeding kirins is required to allow these hidden coat colors to be expressed. Breeding Opal x Opal and Diamond x Diamond continue to result in Opal and Diamond kirins respectively. However, since breeding Opal x Diamond kirins can result in either offspring, we cannot assume these genes are recessive. In fact, the implications of this research suggests an incomplete dominance of the color gene and a further complexity in the gene expression model as we are able to get three variations in color in just the first generation of bred kirin. The second generation of bred kirin follow a similar model in that the target color crossed with the same target color only results in an offspring with the same coat color. Cross-breeding the second-generation exposes more of the incomplete dominance allowing the colors to mix further. Additionally, what is particularly interesting to note is how the gemstone kirin are automatically drawn to gemstones of the same color as their coat. At the moment, it is unclear where the particular affinity for these gems come from, but perhaps the reason is more shallow than originally believed.

Conclusion:
In the ever-evolving research of breeding and color variations, it is essential to appreciate the role of incomplete dominance in shaping the vibrant tapestry of animal coat colors. As we continue to unravel the secrets of genetics, let us celebrate the whimsy, the wonder, and the pure rainbow that gemstone kirins provide every day.
