How to do taxes

How to vote
What political parties are
How to write a resume/cover letter/anything related to getting a job
How to write a check/balance a check book
Anything to do with banking
How to do loans for college
How to jump start a car or other basic emergency things
How to buy a car or house

...But I’m so glad I know the fucking pythagorean theorem :headdesk:

As someone who's turning legal in a couple weeks, I feel this is incredibly accurate. Who wants to begin their adult life wondering what the hell they're supposed to do about taxes, how the hell the banking system works, whether it's smart to get a loan or not... These are the things on my mind instead of celebrating the fact that I'm going to begin life... :srsly: :| :t-corner: :t-facepalm:
Not a word of a lie, I was 20 before I learned how to write a cheque, and I had to ask my parents how. I still don't know how to do my taxes, but fortunately my mother's a bookkeeper.
Gah! I mean, I took a couple weeks of a business math, that actually made sense, and it went over tax forms and such, but at this point in time, it's not exactly fresh on my mind. And then there's the pressure to get a job recently, and knowing that in the current economy, it's often a chance in a million of actually getting a job because of how many other people are looking for jobs as well...

I agree. Often I think there should be a required class for Senior year that teaches you the basics of "Okay, you're parents aren't doing everything for you now. What do you do?"
Honestly I am so freaking glad and also a little lucky for the straws I drew. My mom has made me do my own laundry and cleaning for at least five years now. I learned how to cook earlier than most people. And I am forever in debt to my Pre-Calc teacher. She gave us a project/assignment, "The Cost of Living." You had to pick a job, find the average beginners salary for it, and then find your monthly wage after taxes and budget your money from there. Next step was to find a car and house and 'buy' them, not spending anymore on monthly payments for loan/mortgage than your budget allows. Then find the cost of utilities and similar stuffs. Then sum it all up at the end, find out how much money you've got left, and write a paper. It is seriously one of the best and most useful project I have done in my entire life. I learned about money and saving money cause my mom never bought anything for me. She made me work, and then she'd pay me, and I have since learned the difference between need and want and how to prioritize what I buy, because I can't buy it all. I feel like I'm a ton more prepared for life than most the people at my school, and it is pretty relieving, to say the least.

I know... I've had a lot of people try to be nice to me just because they know I'll do something in return for them if they're nice in a certain way... etc.?
Anyway, it's bad, I know. i'll have time for ya whenever I'm on! Just rant everything to me.
