Re: The Existence Of Mythical Creatures

Not being able to provide good photos or a dead specimen is NOT a good indicator of whether or not an animal exists. Sometimes even a dead specimen is not enough if the animal does not conform to what is "normal." About 150 years ago the British Museum received the skin of a venomous, egg...

Re: Wildlife

Also --- it's mushroom hunting season, which means digging through leaf litter. Just GUESS what we ran into! IT was a beautiful full grown pygmy rattler with lovely rust colored markings curled up in the leaves: *snipt* Pretty, isn't he? That is a very pretty dangerous animal! How dangerous are they?

Re: Wildlife

A coyote has been getting into our trash. I'm debating a live trap so that I can put him in an enclosure and tame him. Always wanted one and I could get the wildlife license to keep him too. They're considered vermin here and you're supposed to shoot them. I can't bear to do it. Is it possible to t...

Re: Current events.

[ He's also the man working on the next manned design, and he's told me there WILL be one. I'm really pleased to hear that! My heart sank every time the Replacement For The Shuttle projects were cancelled, because I knew the Shuttles would not last forever. And now there are, or shortly will be, no...

Re: Wildlife

The superb lyre bird is the most astonishing mimic. I've heard these in the Blue Mountains but never seen a display.

Re: Cryptozoology and Cryptids

Unlike most cryptids, the thylacine was a real animal. The Tasmanian Government listed the thylacine as a protected species on 10 July 1936. The very last thylacine died in captivity on 7 September 1936. I want so very much for thylacines to not be extinct, but I know in my heart they are gone. Even...

Re: Wildlife

The interesting thing is that I am surrounded by marsupials, egg-laying mammals and live-bearing reptiles, and yet marmots sound exotic. Herons... I got herons. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2671/3779555393_74bf69f560.jpg White Faced Heron by battyden , on Flickr This fellow hung around my house un...

Wait 'til you see a flock of 5000 wild budgies in flight. It's an awesome site to see.
