Max eggs is 40 of the ribboned-eggs-which-get-tossed variety; normal egg limit was not changed for this event. Tossing the eggs doesn't give you phoenixes, but having eggs tossed at you sometimes results in a phoenix. (And tossing eggs gets others to toss back to you, so I guess in a round-about-me...
