Light Basilisk #35

General

Commonly known to turn any mortal who looks them in the eyes into stone, basilisks usually hide deep in caves. When raised around humans, they willingly allow their eyes to be covered, but as they grow older learn to keep their eyes closed around magis. Their high sense of smell and hearing allow them to navigate without sight perfectly, fully aware of their surroundings. To creatures basilisks are harmless, their gaze holding no extraordinary powers. Basilisks use surprise when attacking enemy magis, and are usually peaceful. The species consists of dark basilisks, nocturnal, with black and green scales that glitter metallically. Light basilisks are albinos of their species, with crimson eyes and shimmering pale scales.

Egg

Strange pink spikes breach the surface of this egg.

Hatchling

As hatchlings, baby basilisks are kept blindfolded to avoid injuring magis. As they age, their other senses are extremely honed, making the need for sight nonexistent. When playing with other creatures, though, they are harmless and have no need to avoid eye contact. Out of their backs grow wings, though you've never seen them in use. Like any reptilian, they love basking on rocks in the sun, and exploring through long grasses in search of insects.

Adult

Basilisk adults are capable of traveling at great speed, but it's no odd sight to see one wrapped lovingly around its magi's shoulders. Wings once used for flight still decorate their backs, though these large serpents do not have the gift of flight. If necessary, a basilisk will even submit to curling into a small ball for journeys, sleeping away hours of journeying. A common sight on The Keep's walls are a group of light basilisks happily sunning themselves, eyes closed in contentment. When not in the company of magis, basilisks enjoy socializing with other creatures or retreating to their stony cave, a place where they can use their sight with no concern.
