After China cancelled my job contract, I spiraled into this serious depression and panic over not having a job. I put in SO MANY applications overseas, but only had a few interviews.
1 week ago I was offered a position in Vietnam, which I accepted. Today I sent in a copy of my passport so they can get me approved with the govt - right now to enter the country you must be approved and the govt provides the flight and quarantine.
I am PRAYING that being American isn't a 'blemish' because of how we (the country) are acting right now.
If all goes well, I should be on a plane to HCMC at the end of the month (or sooner if they can get it done).

Spoiler
Jimmy's behavior's been concerning ever since he had his tooth extracted. He's gone under for teeth before, but that was years ago, and not amidst a busy pandemic. He's barely eating (though, he gobbled down a wet cat snack earlier, so... I might have to invest. They just tend to give him diarrhea ), and he constantly acts like he can't get comfortable. At night, he comes out of his soft little dog house/bed in my room and looks at me. I talk to him, he wags his tail, then goes back inside. He does this 4-5 times a night before I fall asleep.
I thought maybe he was nervous and had separation anxiety since I left him in a scary place that stole his tooth, but yesterday he did something else worrisome. He was coming down a short staircase and apparently just... stopped walking and fell down 3 stairs. He got up and walked just fine, not a single sound, not holding up a sore limb or anything. This morning, he was lying curled up in my mom's bed while she plugged away at the computer and he just started squealing, apropos to nothing. He was hunched over and holding himself tight, like he was hurting all over.
We checked his legs and feet, his back, belly, neck, behind and even his teeth, but couldn't find anything that bothered him. He calmed down and let me massage him all over with no problem.
I'm hesitant to take him to the vet because he just had a checkup a week before his tooth appointment and he came though with flying colors. I'm afraid they'll charge me out the ass just to tell me there's nothing wrong. I also don't want him going back to the place that frightened him if he's already super stressed.
I'm just really worried. I'm sure it'll pass. It might be embarrassing to some people, but this dog is practically my whole world. I only pushed to have his teeth done because I wanted to make sure he was healthy and comfortable, and now I feel like I did this to him.

Spok had been drooling for a couple of days, so we asked the vet to visit for a check, last Wednesday. Her teeth were a bit too long so the vet trimmed them. It's pretty common for chinchillas to get their teeth too long when they refuse to chew on stuff so we didn't think much of it.
However, Spok didn't stop drooling. She refuses to eat aside for the bare minimum. Again, we didn't panic because we've had past experiences with teeth being trimmed and it's normal to be a bit off for the first few days until the chin gets used to the new feeling.
She's healthy otherwise. She jumps around, plays, even chews on stuff she's not supposed to (the wallpaper and furniture).
We're taking her to the vet tomorrow.
And I feel bad for all of this because it's my fault for not being able to take her to the vet sooner. I had surgery on Monday and aside from doctor trips to check on my eyes I wasn't allowed out of the house because of light sensitivity. Spok's super feisty and one person can't handle her alone, so we had to push the vet visit back because of everything.

Thank you both! I'm excited. I have another meeting on Monday with the head of the school for updates on traveling into the country so I'm fingers crossed they can get us in earlier than anticipated.Sharl wrote:Rock on! Congratulations on your new job, I hope life in Vietnam is good for you!

Re: How Was Your Day Thread V5
Yucky dog stuff.
Spoiler
Spent the entire night awake with Jimmy. He screamed every hour and needed to be rushed to the yard so he could strain painfully to potty. This morning he vomited a few times, and squealed every so often. My aunt said the same thing happened to her dog and recommended giving him only water for 24 hours because his stomach/bowels were irritated. He wasn't interested in eating anyway, but even more worrisome was that he refused to drink too.
Eventually, he emptied himself of everything he had. I'd called the vet at noon, then laid on the couch with Jimmy and napped on and off for several hours. He managed to sleep too, not screaming. The vet finally called back nearly 6 hours later and advised some plain chicken be fed to him. If nothing improved, bring him back in. So, every half hour for two hours I fed him a small amount of boiled chicken, and he finally drank some water, so that was a relief.
He's currently resting with my mom so I can take a break. I was so damn nauseated today, worried myself literally sick over it all.
Hoping everyone else is having a better weekend than me, lol!

Abby... the light of my life and one of the major reasons I didn't give up during some of the darkest days of my depression... the cat that chose to adopt me... she died in my arms tonight. I just can't believe she gone.
