‘This kid isn’t doing too bad...maybe she has potential’

Undyne watching as Mira took part in stirring the pot as hard as she could, she hadn’t thought the human would have enough guts to take on the ‘master’ task without spilling some of the hot water on herself.

Papyrus’s encouraging Mira on seemed to be helping a lot though as the girl remained confident that this meal would come out awesomely with the energy they were putting into it, her worry about taking things slow and easy melting away as meanwhile there was one last thing to do...Undyne smirking as this was her favorite part.

“Alright, one of you turn up the heat while the other stirs!”, Her command directed towards both Mira and Papyrus as her uncovered eye gleamed with Determination, Undyne wanted them to make the best pasta they possibly could and that met the hotter the better!!, “Teamwork, come on!”.

...............

Mira being down in the underground heralding a new and exciting time for monsters as humans rarely if ever fell and survived long enough to recover like this girl did, there...well, there had been another one a long, long time ago that survived by falling into the Ruins, but...it wasn’t really talked about for various reasons, mostly due to the fact that this ‘first fallen’ kid had a terribly tragic story behind them....

To talk of ‘her’ was to bring back a painful memory for the underground as a whole, a time of hope and peace having been shattered by what as far as Alphys knew was a terrible ‘accident’. Shuffling towards her computer as she listened to Sans ask is she had info on how to best help Mira adapt to her new life underground, the Dino scientist seemed to be pulled away from her work at the question in curiosity.

“Actually, I might have something...it’s pretty old but it should give you plenty of info on how humans can be affected by living down here”, Alphys smiling in thought as luckily with her current research she had been able to add small notes of interest about human care to the book she went to find on a nearby shelf, it was quite dusty but many, many yellowed papers and note tags were attached to various pages, each a fact about humans, good or bad.

“Remember, humans need sunlight too to avoid getting sick, kinda like a plant~”, Laughing a bit awkwardly at her own joke, Alphys was kind of happy to be honest that Sans had asked about human acclimation as...her research really wasn’t leading her anywhere new on how to get this kid home as of yet, “Actual records from that long ago though? I might be able to dig some up, but...you would need to give me time, they aren’t exactly something anyone just looked into”.

‘Why would he want anything that far back? It’s not that difficult to find modern records on how humans can live down here....and the fallen child? What is he up to in that skull of his...?’

Papyrus grinned, glad that Undyne was letting Mira participate. This was a lot more fun when working together with Mira; it seemed that Undyne had the same idea as she encouraged the two to work together for the next step as well.

"I'LL TURN UP THE HEAT!" Papyrus offered cheerfully, turning the dial on the stove up somewhat. Since Mira was still new to stirring the pasta, he didn't turn up the heat quite as much as he usually did during these cooking lessons. The last thing he wanted was for her to get hurt if she made a mistake. Hoping Undyne would understand his reasoning, he smiled at the the two.

"YOU'RE DOING GREAT MIRA! THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST PASTA EVER!" Papyrus said encouragingly.

........

Sans smiled upon hearing Alphys thought she had something that would help; though it turned out to be an old dusty book rather than records of the time when the first fallen child was living here, Sans figured it might still have some information about them among the note tags that seemed to have been added in. Either way, it would probably still be useful for helping Mira get used to living in the Underground, so reading through it wouldn't be a waste at all.

Sans chuckled a bit at Alphys' joke, though it also reminded him of why this was so urgent... There was a plant that could reset everything on a whim.

Sans was a bit disappointed to hear it would take time to find any actual records from back then, but he carefully hid the disappointment since he didn't want Alphys to feel bad. While Sans hadn't really expected Alphys to just have those records lying around, ready at a moments' notice, Sans wasn't sure how much time he had, and he was starting to feel anxious.

What if Flowey decided to reset tomorrow or something? Sans might not have enough time to wait for her to find them...

"of course. uh, hey, maybe later today, when you're not busy, i can stop by again and help you look?" Sans suggested, figuring two skulls were better than one when it came to finding things.

It only took a few minutes more for the pasta to be finished once the heat had been turned up higher and things were looking good so far, Miras arm being as tired as it possible could have been once Undyne claimed the time was up. Sure, the pasta was practically tangled in on itself from this being the first time the human was allowed to stir, but it could have been a lot worse, right?

“There, it should be good, right?”, Smiling at her newfound friends as meanwhile Undyne went to do the ‘heavier’ task of straining the pasta, Mira couldn’t help but wonder how often the pair did this ritual together before she had fallen into their lives.

Another question the girl had the feeling she shouldn’t ask was where did they get foods like tomatoes when there was no obvious sunlight to grow anything down here? It was probably magic of some kind...yeah, she was surely just over thinking things like usual.

Laughing a bit as she strained the pasta, Undyne could remember when her and Papyrus had made their biggest mistake yet in this dish as she looked over to the skeleton with a smirk, “She did better than that time we didn’t strain the water at least, we practically just made spaghetti soup that time!”

———————

Alphys having really thought that Sans wanted a book on basically everything there was to know about humans as she handed him the old book she had grabbed, it was honestly kind of endearing to her that he was interested in learning about the surface dwelling species, or just Mira in general if that was the case.

It was just...ever since she knew him, Sans had been a bit of a strange one, being both a open book and a complete mystery mixed together into a lab partner and a good friend.

For him to care this much about a human he had just the other day met must have met there was something special in the different souls between the pair, Alphys trusting that this met Sans would keep the human safe no matter what during her stay down here.

“Well, if you like you can root around in the basement to see if there is anything you can find. It would be a lot better than waiting for me to-“, Alphys shaking her head as she was cut off mid sentence by a blast of...something exploding behind her in a glass tube, the scientist sighed and went to clean up the purple, gunky looking substance.

“Than waiting for me to help. What’s up with the sudden interest in, Uhh...old human stuff though? We have lots of up to date records and I doubt any that far back would be accurate”, Glancing back at the skeleton as she then looked at her apparently failed experiment with disdain, Alphys was In thought of telling Sans something but decided against it for now.

‘No, I can’t say anything yet, they can’t know...I-I will soon though, just not now’

"YES! YOU DID A GREAT JOB," Papyrus told Mira, smiling as Undyne strained the pasta. Papyrus couldn't wait to try the spaghetti, the first spaghetti they had all made together. It was sure to be the best pasta any of them had ever tasted! How could it not be, when all three of them had poured their souls into making it?

Papyrus laughed as Undyne recalled the incident where they hadn't strained the pasta and ended up with soup. "AH, YES! THAT WAS A DELICIOUS SOUP, THOUGH!" After all, even if the dish hadn't turned out how they'd intended, the two of them had still worked together and tried their best to make it and therefore it couldn't be a failure!

"SO, MIRA, DID YOU HAVE FUN?" Papyrus asked hopefully.

........

Sans was startled by something exploding, and wondered what it was and what the experiment was supposed to do. Though, he figured it might be best not to ask just yet; it didn't sound like it had turned out how Alphys had expected, and he didn't want to rub salt in the wound by asking about it. Though, Sans noticed the substance was purple, and hadn't the extracted Determination had a purple hue to it? Sans wondered if this had something to do with the extracted Determination...

Shaking himself out of his thoughts, Sans returned his attention to what Alphys was saying. Starting the search now sounded like a good plan; hopefully he would be able to find something about the first fallen child quickly. "thanks, i think i'll do that," Sans said with a smile. At Alphys' question, Sans added, "oh, well, i just figured... they lived down here for awhile, much longer than the human who showed up a few years ago and left... so if there's anything important about long term care, the newer records might not have it." Sans hoped Alphys wouldn't question his reasoning too much, and that his answer would suffice. After all, how could he explain his real reasoning for this research project? 'There's a talking flower that wants to reset time and kill everyone, and this might be my only chance to convince him otherwise?' Yeah, that would go over well. She'd think he completely lost it!

Sans smiled and waved to Alphys, before heading to the elevator to go down to the basement. As he waited for the elevator to make the decent, Sans began reading through the book Alphys had given him, specifically the notes attached to it. The first few seemed to just be about humans in general, but as he reached a section on humans' eating habits, he found a note attached to one of the pages that stood out to him. 'Loves chocolate?' That didn't sound like it was referring to humans in general, but rather one human. Sans wondered if it was referring to the first fallen child...

The elevator stopped, and Sans stepped out of it, closing the book again for now as he began looking through the various notes and other information in the basement. As Sans searched, he found information about old experiments, theories, and even a couple blueprints, but nothing about the first fallen child. But then, as he was skimming over a paper, he noticed something. It was an experiment, something about injecting Determination into a flower...

Sans read through the paper from the start. Apparently, Alphys had decided to inject a golden flower with Determination to see what would happen if something without a soul gained the will to live...

...Was this the origin of Flowey? As he continued reading, he saw the flower had disappeared. It certainly sounded like this flower might be Flowey, but that still didn't explain his connection to the first fallen child.

Sans kept looking. More papers, none of which mentioned the fallen human at all. Then, in a corner, he noticed a screen and some video tapes. Many seemed to be old cartoons, but there was also a small group of them that weren't labelled at all. For some reason, it felt like something was telling him to watch them. So, he picked one up at random, set it up, and watched.

The screen turned to the image of a human wearing a green and yellow striped sweater, with short brunette hair. This must be the first fallen child! Sans watched as a hand appeared in front of the camera, holding a chocolate bar out to the human.
"Chara! I brought you something!" The speaker had to be Asriel, the son of the King and Queen.
The human looked up, confused at first before smiling when they saw the chocolate bar. "Chocolate! Thank you, Rei."
Sans recalled the note he'd found in the old book Alphys had given him; "Loves chocolate?" So, that had been about the first fallen child, after all...

Sans picked up another tape. This time, the screen remained blank when the video started; in fact, Sans wasn't even sure if it actually had started until he heard Asriel's voice speak up.
"Smile!"
"Rei, you know the lens cap is on, right?" Chara's voice. They sounded amused.
"Aww, man..." Asriel sounded like he was pouting. A few seconds later, the lens cap was apparently removed, as the image on the screen was once again of the first fallen child. "There! Now smile!"
"Hmm... Nah," Chara replied.
"Aww, but Chara-!" Asriel began.
Chara giggled, before smiling at their adoptive brother. "I am just messing with you, Rei."

Sans picked up the next tape, still smiling from how much the two siblings seemed to care about each other. The next tape started quite similarly to the previous one, with the screen blank as Asriel said, "Smile!" A few moments later, he giggled and added, "This time, I left the lens on on purpose! Now you're smiling for noooo reason!"
Chara giggled as well.
"So, what were you thinking about?" Asriel asked.
"Just..." Chara trailed off, sounding slightly uncertain.
"Come on, Chara! You can tell me anything! We're best friends, remember?"
"Of course." Chara paused for a moment, before continuing, "Remember how you said I could fix anything?"
"Yeah!"
A few more seconds of hesitation, and then... "I have an idea for how we can break the barrier."
"Really? How?" Asriel sounded surprised and amazed.
"Well, you need the power of seven human souls to break it, right? And human souls persist after death, so you could find some dead humans' souls and absorb them and break the barrier."
"I guess so, but there aren't any dead humans here. I'd have to cross the barrier first. And I can't do that, I'd need a human soul to get past it..."
"...Remember when we baked that pie?"
"Oh, yeah... I mistook 'cups of butter' for 'buttercups' and almost put some flowers in the pie... But you caught me in time and stopped me, 'cause they're poisonous... If it wasn't for you, that could have ended really badly... Where are you going with this?" Asriel sounded sad as he recalled the incident, and confused what it had to do with Chara's idea.
"...Turn off the camera."

Sans frowned slightly as he reached for the next tape; he wasn't sure he wanted to know what the next tape held, after the somewhat worrying end to the last one, but he knew if it had any kind of clue that would explain Flowey's reaction earlier, he needed to watch it.
The screen showed an image of the human, either asleep or unconscious, looking very sick.
Asriel's voice spoke up, "Chara... Please wake up. I don't like this plan anymore... I want to be free, but not at the cost of losing you... Please, wake up..."
There was silence for several moments afterwards, and just as Sans was starting to wonder if there was something wrong with the tape or it had gotten stuck, Asriel spoke up again.
"I'm sorry, Chara... I'll finish the plan, I'll break the barrier..."
Sans put the tapes back where he'd found them, silent with a pensive expression. If he had to guess, the plan had been for Chara to eat some buttercups and die, then Asriel would absorb their soul, cross the barrier, find the souls of six more dead humans, and break the barrier.
Unfortunately, that hadn't worked out; the humans had attacked Asriel as soon as they saw him, and though Asriel didn't fight back, the humans continued their onslaught of attacks until Asriel was fatally wounded.
Though, this still didn't explain what Flowey had to do with any of- Wait.

Sans rushed back to the elevator, wondering if his idea could have merit. If Alphys had taken the golden flower from the place where Asriel had died... Could it possibly have had Asriel's consciousness in it? Could the injection of Determination have turned Asriel into Flowey?

The elevator stopped again at the main floor of Alphys' lab, and Sans stepped out, trying not to sound too urgent as he asked his question.

"dr. alphys, where did you find that flower you injected with determination?"

Mira blushing happily when she was complimented still by Papyrus, for actually doing a decent job at cooking, she really didn’t have the confidence that she was going to do so well at first just because she had..well, never really cooked in this manner before.

“Thanks!~”, nodding happily as meanwhile Undyne didn’t seem to be nearly as concerned about this human as earlier, her fully having expected the girl to have failed at cooking lessons since she was new to the game.

Was she a bit jealous? Perhaps, but no little human was going to learn that, Undyne handing each of the pair a plate of pasta to try out and see if it came out decently, her laughing a little at the fact that Papyrus seemed to think their past mistake was ‘delicious’, Because we are honed masters at this craft! Even if we make a mistake it’s still going to come out awesome!”.

............

Alphys knew that letting anyone know of her monster focused experiments could land her in deep, deep trouble with not just Asgore but the entirety of the underground, the absolute only reason she had shown Sans the DT extraction machine being because she...well, she trusted the skeleton to keep a secret more than anyone else.

And her thoughts on using a live human in order to have a essentially unlimited sully of DT...the scientist had made it seem like it would be so easy to do, but in reality she had been lying to Sans...there was no way another human with a Determination soul would fall anytime soon and she didn’t even want to think of using Mira, the thought being repulsive to even hint at.

Sending Sans off to the basement to look for old documents as she continued on her work, Alphys had completely forgotten that there were certain old tapes down there that the skeleton might find intriguing, as well as some hints towards exactly where Flowey had came from in the first place.

Her own stupid concept that somehow it might be a good idea to inject a object with determination...it disregarded all common sense...but she had tried it anyways, the golden flower going missing after a day or two as if it had simply turned to dust.

She was a idiot for thinking such a idea would work, her own fears of telling anyone about what she had done haunting her mind ever since....

‘The amalgamaytes....’

The sound of the elevator after a while taking the scientist from her research though as she got the gut feeling that something was ‘wrong’, the nervous look on the scientists face was clear when Sans stepped out of the elevator in what looked like a bit of a hurry, it being obvious he had found some, uhhh...interesting info down there....

“W-wait, what are you taking about?”, Alphys not being the best lier ever as Sans asked the inevitable question on where she had gotten a particular flower from that she had injected with DT, the Dino hesitated on being honest despite having suspected this would happen sooner or later....

“Listen, I’m sure you know of what happened to Asriel, the king’s son, yes?”, Turning away from Sans in shame as she didn’t want to look the skeleton in the face, Alphys knew she had to be honest, “Well, I thought that taking a flower from his garden and having it being the first inanimate object to be injected with DT might cheer him up if the results went well...”.

Trailing off as she had no idea that this experiment had led to Sans own nightmare of living in fear of resets, Alphys was more ashamed of the fact that she had injected DT into such a pointless experiment for ‘nothing’, “Needless to say, it wasn’t a success, the flower just dusted itself after a while with no results. I probably wasted about 3 vials of DT on it too...geez, I’m just a fool for thinking it would work”.

"YOU'RE WELCOME!" Papyrus said to Mira, glad to see that she had enjoyed the cooking lesson. Papyrus personally thought it was one of the greatest cooking lessons yet, since the three of them had been working together and they were destined to all become great friends!

"VERY TRUE!" Papyrus agreed with Undyne. "THANK YOU," he added as he accepted a plate of the spaghetti. Eagerly taking a bite, he grinned. It was truly delicious! Even better than their previous lesson's result! "IT'S WONDERFUL! WE DID A GREAT JOB!" Papyrus announced his opinion on the spaghetti.

Papyrus happily ate the rest of his portion of the dish, it was even better knowing he'd made it with his friends. Papyrus hoped the other two would enjoy the spaghetti just as much, as this would surely be an excellent starting point for their friendship. Papyrus watched the two to see what they would think.

...........

Sans wondered why Alphys started off by acting like she didn't know what he was talking about; he highly doubted she would just forget about an experiment, even if she thought it had been a failure. Why was she hesitating to answer honestly? Sans hadn't thought Alphys would be uncomfortable explaining where she'd found the golden flower, and felt a bit bad for asking, but for the sake of finding out what was going on with Flowey... Sans needed to know.

When Alphys mentioned Asriel, Sans knew he had to be on the right track. Though, Alphys turning away from him in shame made Sans feel even worse, he hadn't meant to upset her at all. Hearing Alphys talking down on herself about the experiment being a 'failure,' Sans knew he had to tell her.

Not everything, of course. Sans didn't want anyone to know about the times Flowey had killed people just to see what would happen. It would only make them sad, and it wouldn't help the situation at all.

But he could at least tell her the flower hadn't turned to dust and was still alive. "hey, it wasn't a failure. the flower... it, uh, didn't turn to dust. it's still around." Sans said, hoping that she wouldn't ask too much about what it had been up to. "it's... actually part of why i came here. i was trying to figure out where it had come from."

So, Flowey had indeed come from Asgore's garden... The place where Asriel had died. Sans' theory might actually be correct. There was only one thing he could do to test it... Sans would need to talk with Flowey. Not something he'd usually consider, since Sans preferred to stay as far off the flower's radar as possible, but since Flowey might just end up resetting anyway, he didn't really have a choice.

At least he could have some fun with it. After all, when would Sans pass up an opportunity to tell puns?

Mira had honestly thought that the pasta she, Papyrus, and Undyne had put their heart into would have came out as awesome as they all seemed to think it would, everyone’s confidence being high when they had all tried it, the first sign that something was wrong having been when Mira had felt like something burning dropped in the pit of her belly.

H-had Undyne or Papyrus added the peppers again when she wasn’t paying attention?

Whatever it was, the human, by the time they had eventually gotten back to Snowdin after a while of Mira repressing her stomach ache to be polite, had ended up sick on her knees in the snow, her feeling ashamed by the fact that she seemed to have gotten sick from the meal her and her skeleton friend had put so much love towards.

For that she had tried to rid her stomach of its problems when he wasn’t nearby, he knowing by now that if Papyrus found out something was wrong it probably met that he would call Sans, the thought of him being called for her sake a second time bringing great shame to her tired soul.

‘I don’t need him looking after me like a c-child...’

The last thing Mira wanted to do was upset Papyrus as the meal hadn’t came out terribly this time besides the fact that it had the spicy peppers in it again, her stomach simply being sensitive to this ingredient in particular despite her love of other, heavily spiced dishes.

Was she maybe allergic? No, that wouldn’t be it, her mind unable to focus on that thought as she did get best to remain calm and stand up wobbly when she had wretched up the spiciness from her stomach.

‘Just baby steps Mira, he won’t even know anything is wrong’

.............

‘He doesn’t know the truth of any of this yet, does he? I lied to those families because of my own guilt...’

Alphys had her own reason to feel shame over the experiments she had done in secret, the thought that the monstrosities she had accidentally created with DT injections...the same monsters she had spoken about to Sans the other day when she brought up the concept of somehow reawakening fallen monsters, being found out not being a consequence she was ready to deal with.

She hadn’t intended for -that- flower to be found out about either, but it seemed Sans had caught onto what she had done regardless, Alphys knowing she couldn’t just act like it wasn’t real that she had tried to inject a inanimate object with determination and had failed terribly with the results.

Bu perhaps she hadn’t failed after all?...If what Sans was saying was true, that he knew the flower hadn’t turned to to dust after all...than maybe her experiment had been a potential success?

“It’s...still around?”, Cocking her head a little as she wasn’t really sure what Sans was getting at anymore with his cryptic talk, Alphys never would have even began to think of the damage her little experiment had done to the underground as a whole, “Uhh, care to explain more? How did it not turn to dust? I-I mean, flowers don’t just get up and leave...wait, do they?”.

Shaking her head as she tried to think back on the day the flower had gone missing, Alphys hadn’t paid it much mind as it just seemed like a routine failure, but now it appeared Sans was hinting at a idea she really, really, didn’t want to hear or think about....

Papyrus had left the cooking lesson in high spirits, already planning out in his mind what other dishes they could make together. Perhaps he could even convince Undyne to let Mira teach them how to make a human dish! Now that would certainly be exciting; Papyrus had never tried a dish prepared by humans before!

However, shortly after he and Mira had returned to Snowdin, while Papyrus was preparing some things in the kitchen, he realized Mira was missing. "MIRA?" he called out, leaving the kitchen to search for her. She didn't seem to be anywhere in the house, so he headed outside to see if she'd gone for a walk.

"MIRA, ARE YOU OUT HERE?" Papyrus called out again as he stepped outside and glanced around for any sign of her. Noticing some footprints in the snow, fresher than those of the two returning from the cooking lesson, he began to follow them.

.........

Sans had been expecting Alphys to ask questions when she learned the flower was still around, and was a bit worried her questions would get a bit too deep and lead to her finding out what Flowey had been doing. She was a scientist after all. Fortunately, for now her questions seemed easy enough to answer without getting into detail on what had been going on.

"yeah, it's still around, i'm not sure why or how exactly, though," Sans began. Sans figured it probably wasn't the best idea to tell Alphys his theory that the flower had Asriel's consciousness either, so he decided to leave it out and act like he hadn't made the connection.

"this one can, apparently," Sans replied to Alphys' inquiry of whether the flower could get up and leave. "don't know what it's doing, exactly, but it can burrow under the ground or pop out of the ground whenever it wants."

Sans wondered if Alphys had any ideas on how Flowey was travelling. It would certainly be helpful if Sans knew what Flowey was doing; maybe he could even find out where Flowey was hiding out when he wasn't bothering Sans or causing problems. "any idea how it does that?" he asked hopefully.

Though, Alphys didn't look like she was pleased that her experiment hadn't actually been a failure; Sans wondered what was bothering her.

Mira not quite getting just -why- she was trying to hide the fact that she was ill, it was almost as if something in her mind was telling her that it was the best option to avoid causing any issues for what was to be her new home, her nervous nature never having completely disappeared just because she was used to the skelebro’s by now.

The girl had her..Uhh, reasons for being so wary of feeling like she imposing still, but that was a tale for another time, another wave of nausea crashing onto her like a wave.

There was still so, so much to be anxious about down here, nerve wrecking but pointless thoughts only adding to the fact that her stomach was super upset by whatever she had eaten as it felt like her belly was flipping on her when she stood up. Taking in a breath when she heard Papyrus calling for her, she should have known the skeleton would have gotten worried when she hadn’t came inside.

‘Just act as if everything is okay, he won’t know anything is up’

“Y-yeah, I’ll be right in~!”, Calling back to Papyrus as she tried to prevent her stomach from rolling over anymore, she could deal with this, it was just that she had to ignore it and it would pass like any old stomachs bug and she would be fine.

........

Truth be told, the fact that the golden flower she had injected with Determination was alive was a serious shock to the usually anxiety ridden scientists system, her just wanting to have seen the results of what would happen if she injected the substance into a object with no soul.

Sentience wasn’t exactly on the top of her list on the possibilities of what could have happened, but surely Sans wasn’t lying, right? No, even he didn’t seem the type to joke about things like this, Alphys thinking for a moment before responding to him cautiously.

“This must mean that it’s more than just a soul that guides life...”, Talking slow as if she were connecting the dots in her head that injecting determination had lead to giving life to a otherwise inanimate object, Alphys would need to look into this later, her fully unaware of the evils this flower had done due to its lack of a conscious.

Alphys simply didn’t have enough info on this creature yet though to suggest that she knew how it traveled, her shaking her head when Sans asked hopefully if she might understand how it burrowed or seemed to pop up at any given time, “The best answer I can give you is that it might know some sort of minor magic and use that to its advantage. Of course, there -is- the void theory as well, but that seems a bit advanced for a mere flower, don’t you think?”.

Papyrus was relieved to hear Mira call back to him, though he was still a bit worried; why had she walked off like that? Had she gotten bored while waiting for him to finish up in the kitchen? Papyrus figured he really should have been paying more attention...

"ALRIGHT, IS EVERYTHING OKAY?" Papyrus asked, still following Mira's footprints. Papyrus didn't want to leave her out here in the cold alone, even if it didn't sound like she'd gone too far. After all, Papyrus wasn't sure how much of the cold temperature humans could handle.

Soon enough, he found her. "THERE YOU ARE!" Papyrus said, clearly relieved, as he rushed over. Though his relief faded when he noticed she seemed uncomfortable; Papyrus wondered what had caused it. "WHAT'S WRONG?"

...........

Sans wondered if it had actually been a good idea to tell Alphys about Flowey as she seemed to start connecting the dots; what would she think if she realized the flower might have originally been Asriel? It was too late to go back now though, he'd already told her the flower was still around.

Though, what if she didn't figure that out and thought she could just inject Determination into any object and it would become alive? Sans doubted anything would happen to the objects, and then she might think he was lying... Well, that was the least of his worries right now.

Sans considered Alphys' suggestions for how Flowey was travelling. Sans didn't think it was magic that was letting Flowey move around like that; aside from the burrowing, Flowey seemed relatively stationary once he'd popped up. If he could teleport or something, Sans definitely would have found out about it during their battles. That wasn't to say Flowey couldn't use magic, of course, but his abilities were more focused on attacking than anything else.

But Alphys' other suggestion- the void theory- that might be a possibility. If Flowey was accessing the void somehow, it could theoretically allow him to move from one place to another by entering the void from one place and exiting it at another. Maybe the burrowing was just to hide what he was doing.

It looked like Sans had something else to research now. Fortunately, he knew where he could find some books on the void theory without making Alphys wonder about him even more than she probably already was. "yeah, i guess so..." Sans replied nonchalantly, trying to act as though he wasn't thinking about it too much anymore.

Deciding to change the subject, Sans asked, "so, find anything interesting during your research? i read through that book i borrowed yesterday; there wasn't anything that will help us much in it, unfortunately." Sans hoped that when everyone got together again to discuss what they'd read, they would come up with some ideas for what to do about the barrier, but if all the books were as unhelpful as the one he'd read, he didn't think they'd have much to go on. Maybe if Alphys had found something, though, he'd have a better idea of what to look for during the research...
