(Hmmm, it may come down to that eventually if you like playing as a more serious Sans, but she would only ever go through with it as a last resort and if Gaster was on her side of the decision :: after all, a single human life to save monsters, no matter how much Sans wants to protect her, is worth it)

(I could easily see it coming down to the wire of sacrificing Mira before your o.c and Chara manage to prove they can be of use in breaking the barrier, for those last feels before we begin life on the surface ~)


Mira blushing happily as she had never expected to see a monster with such positive energy and overeager excitement as this, the girl got very good vibes from the taller of the brother’s immediately as she felt no fear, just a warm happiness in her heart that told her everything really would be ok as long as things kept looking up like they were now.

‘He is this happy just because I’m a human? T-that’s odd but at least he is smiling~’

Her eyes widening confused when Sans was picked up by Papyrus though and seemingly swung around in his joyful outburst, Mira couldn’t help but be concerned over the safety of such a move as she opened her mouth but hesitated on saying something about it.

‘Wait, can skeletons really get hurt though...?’


Giggling when Sans gave her a goofy thumbs up though, Mira decided against saying anything after all as this seemed to be common among the pair, her tilting her head a bit when Papyrus mentioned ‘puzzles’, her definition of puzzles likely varying from what he was talking about as she still nodded with a genuine smile regardless.

“U-uh, yeah! I do like puzzles!”, Mira speaking up as it seemed that Papyrus was the type to not want to take no for a answer, the human tried to put on a brave face but only ended up looking cute in a odd way, “what kind of puzzles are we talking about though?~”.

(Oh, I can still roleplay as a slightly more serious Sans without Mira being in danger! I just meant he'd definitely protect Mira if she was in danger like that. It's totally up to you if you want Alphys to actually consider it, Gaster would definitely only consider it as like the absolute last resort (besides, who wants to tell your kid you're planning on hurting one of his closest friends because... That would be an awkward conversation) and even then he'd be very hesitant, so it would mostly be on Alphys to make that call or not)
(If you wanna have a bit more angst with that though, you can of course! I'm guessing this would be before they find out about my OC? Otherwise they'd probably go for the Determination soul instead, which would... Actually end up worse probably Mira's not the only one with a very protective friend!)

"OH, WONDERFUL!" Papyrus said excitedly, glad to hear Mira did like puzzles. Finally, here was someone who could match even Papyrus's love of puzzles! Even his brother's horrible jokes couldn't ruin Papyrus's mood now!

"i'm sure they'll be enlightening," Sans spoke up with a grin.

...Or not.

"SANS! NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR JOKES! IT IS CLEARLY THE TIME FOR PUZZLES!" Papyrus said, frowning at Sans with mock-annoyance. What Papyrus was most bewildered by though was how Sans had figured out that the first of his puzzles involved color-changing light tiles. Or had that just been a lucky guess? Papyrus shook off the thought; no time to be annoyed by jokes now! Right now Papyrus had a human to welcome! Turning back to Mira, Papyrus continued, "ANYWAY, THE FIRST PUZZLE IS WHAT I LIKE TO CALL.... THE RANDOM COLOR CHANGING TILES PUZZLE! BASICALLY, THE TILES WILL LIGHT UP IN A VARIETY OF COLORS, EACH OF WHICH HAS A DIFFERENT RULE YOU MUST FOLLOW AS YOU GO FROM ONE SIDE OF THE PUZZLE TO THE OTHER! WHAT DO YOU THINK?" Papyrus waited eagerly for Mira's verdict, hoping the puzzle would interest her.

Sans couldn't resist making the pun, knowing it would confuse his brother how he'd managed to figure out what the puzzle was. In all honesty, Sans had happened across a diagram Papyrus had been working on a few days ago labelled 'NEWEST AND BEST PUZZLE EVER!! SURE TO IMPRESS ALL!!' and figured that was what he would go with when trying to welcome Mira.

Hey, it was a brother's job to bewilder his brother every now and then, right? Plus, the expression on his face for a split-second was priceless.

Either way, he hoped Mira would see that Papyrus's puzzles were all going to be harmless; Papyrus probably would have 'child-proof'ed them as well since he had very little idea what a human was in the first place. So, there was really nothing to worry about.

(Ohhh that sounds interesting, do it as you please when things get rough xD)

To be honest I would kinda enjoy seeing things get that way as nothing seems to be working at a point to either fix the core or shatter the barrier and hard decisions have to be made ::: We of course know everything is going to work out fine in the end but it would add a lot of drama before they all finally get true happiness once the barrier is broken. It’s angst but not to the point that anyone dies or anything!)

Mira totally getting already that the Skeleton brother’s played off each other for kicks just by listening and watching how they interacted, it was honestly kind of ‘cute’ in a odd sense to the girl, her patience due to be rewarded with more puzzles by Papyrus who was clearly happy to show her that during her stay here with them the underground would prove to be very, very odd indeed.

“I-uh, it sounds pretty de-light-Ful”, Smiling happy as she followed up on San’s pun when it seemed to get a big reaction out of Papyrus, Mira for a quick second seemed to hesitant as she was introduced to the ‘random color changing tile puzzle!’before remembering who it had been set up by in the first place.

‘He wouldn’t set up anything actually dangerous, right?’

The thought of Papyrus’s puzzles actually being dangerous seeming like it would be a very, very rude awakening to this part of the underground, Mira knew better than to think such a thing as the Skelebro just seemed like a big goodball who wouldn’t hurt a fly.

“What are the rules though?~”, Mira speaking the last part a bit slow as if she didn’t quite trust that the tiles Papyrus spoke of would be safe to walk across still, she figured there was some kind of catch if she unwittingly stepped on the wrong color.

(Yep, you know you've sunk low when you've got a PhD but there's the ghost of an irate twelve year old giving you a lecture on ethics My OC would be literally on the floor laughing while Alphys and Gaster are just watching in confusion because 'we just threatened her safety and now she's laughing a lot what is going on' )

Sans grinned as Mira told a pun as well, while Papyrus merely sighed. "I SUPPOSE I SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED MY BROTHER TO TRY TO CORRUPT YOU WITH HIS TERRIBLE PUNS... WORRY NOT, MIRA! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, SHALL SAVE YOU FROM THE PUNS!"

Sans wasn't entirely sure what that meant, but figured it would be entertaining. Considering Papyrus had been trying to get Sans to stop telling puns for years now to no avail, he doubted it would be very successful, either. Which was good, since it was always nice to have someone to tell puns with.

Hearing Mira sounded a bit uncertain about the effects of the different colored tiles in the puzzle, Sans sent a reassuring smile in her direction. Sans knew Papyrus would never have included anything that could potentially hurt her.

"OH, OF COURSE! THE RULES ARE SIMPLE! IF YOU STEP ON AN ORANGE TILE, YOU CAN ONLY MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD, NOT TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT OF THAT TILE! IF YOU STEP ON A BLUE TILE, YOU CAN ONLY MOVE RIGHT OR LEFT, NOT FORWARD OR BACKWARD FROM THAT TILE! YOU CANNOT PASS RED TILES AT ALL! YOU MUST FIND A WAY AROUND THOSE! GREEN TILES WILL PLAY A BIT OF MUSIC WHILE YOU STAND ON THEM! IF YOU FIND A WAY TO STAND ON ALL THE GREEN TILES AND THUS PLAY THE FULL SONG, YOU GET BONUS POINTS! YELLOW TILES DON'T REALLY DO ANYTHING, YOU CAN MOVE AROUND ON THOSE AS YOU PLEASE. FINALLY! THE PURPLE TILE! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!" Papyrus leaned towards Mira conspiratorially. "IF YOU STAND ON THE PURPLE TILE, I'LL GIVE YOU A PLATE OF MY FAMOUS SPAGHETTI!" Standing straight again, Papyrus grinned. "SO, WHAT DO YOU SAY? WILL YOU GIVE THE PUZZLE A TRY?"

Papyrus was almost bouncing in place, clearly eager to see what Mira thought of his puzzle. After all, he had worked very hard on it! It would be a shame if it was never put to use. And what better use than to (hopefully) impress the human?

(Oh my god, I think at least Alphys would assume that your o.c had just cracked mentally tbh at that point xD They can’t see Chara obviously so it’s just going to look like your o.c is laughing at thin air to what is honestly a horrible situation)

Mira kind of catching into the whole pun-tastic habit of Sans now as they both appeared to enjoy the cheesy jokes at the expense of Papyrus’s sanity, the girl hadn’t felt this happy with anyone in quite a long time and actually felt she could kind of be herself around these two a bit more.

On the surface world, humans were kind of strict on silly little things like puns and puzzles as they were unnecessary, but down here things seemed to be a little more happy...even if overall the outcome for the future of the underground was bleak.

“Wait, b-but I like-“, Mira blushing confused when it seemed that Papyrus thought he had to ‘save’ her from hearing anymore puns from his shorter brother, maybe this was a misunderstanding? D-did he not get she didn’t need to be helped?

Either way, getting cut off from her sentence from a true ramble to end all rambles as Mira did her best to pick up on everything that Papyrus seemed to try and say all in one breath, the girl seemed shell shocked as that...was a lot to remember, her glancing at Sans as if to ask ‘is he always like this?’ For a moment before smiling and nodding.

“That sounds amazing! And know what’s even more amazing?”, Smirking as she leaned into the taller brother just as he had done to her a moment ago, Mira dark eyes seemed mischievous, “I’m going to solve it without making a single mistake~”.

(Yep, basically To make things worse, Chara would also freak out more because laughing was their coping mechanism so it's like. OH MY WORD MY FRIEND IS HAVING A PANIC ATTACK AND THESE TWO SUPPOSED DOCTORS ARE DOING NOTHING. WHAT DO I DO. HELP.)

Sans was glad to see Mira seemed happy. When she tried to explain she liked puns, he simply snickered to himself as he knew Papyrus would never believe that. All Papyrus was likely to really do was lecture him about 'corrupting people with puns' anyway, so it wasn't anything Mira should worry about. Besides, he'd probably forget all about the puns- for now at least- once Mira started solving the puzzle.

When Papyrus gave his speech on the rules of the puzzle, Sans grinned. Papyrus could talk for ages without pause when it was something he was excited about. At Mira's questioning glance, Sans nodded. This was quite normal for Papyrus, really.

Mira's declaration that she would solve the puzzle without any mistakes made Sans smile; that was certain to make Papyrus happy.

Papyrus was slightly confused by Mira's short rambling; was she trying to say she liked puns?! No, of course not. That was ridiculous! It was just Sans telling so many puns that she ended up saying one as well. Papyrus would really need to talk with Sans about that later...

BUT!! For now! There was a puzzle to be solved!

"WOWIE!! YOU MUST REALLY LOVE PUZZLES LIKE I DO!" Papyrus said happily at Mira's declaration. "IN THAT CASE, I'LL SHOW YOU TO THE PUZZLE RIGHT AWAY!" Papyrus eagerly began leading the way to the puzzle, which wasn't very far away. It looked almost like a dance floor with dozens of colorful tiles. "NOW, WHEN I PRESS THIS SWITCH, THE TILES WILL ALL CHANGE COLOR TO A RANDOM COLOR! THIS WAY THE PUZZLE IS DIFFERENT EVERY TIME!! SO IT'S PERFECT FOR SOLVING OVER AND OVER!" Papyrus explained cheerfully, pressing the switch and causing the tiles to all change colors a few times before finally stopping on one of the colors he mentioned before. "YOU CAN START WHENEVER YOU'RE READY!"

(Chara is truly chaotic neutral xD)

Mira feeling determined to show this great Papyrus that she was more than capable of solving one of his puzzles with how confident he seemed to be that it was insolvable, the girl really did like challenges like this since it met no one was really going to get hurt in the end, or so she could hope.

The skeleton not exactly seeming to have the highest grasp on what a human was, Mira sensed there was always the possibility that he could accidentally do something that monsters could tolerate but humans couldn’t by sheer mistake.

‘He seems naive but otherwise as nice as could be...’

Following to where the puzzle was located, confident Mira smiled as Papyrus rambled on about how it would work as he pressed the switch to a array of dizzying lights on the floor, her confidence suddenly waning as she remembered all the ridiculous rules for each tile...or, forgot them entirely as she steeped on a orange Hued tile with little trouble.

The next tile a blue, it took the girl a minute to remember what this one did as she managed to find her way farther onto the odd puzzled surface, her determination to solve it in one go seeming to be assured by now.

‘O-oh, this should be easy!~’

Confidently taking another step forward and another and another, Mira had it down for the most part due to sheer luck until a purple tile was in the way, her not really remembering what this particular one did as she stepped on it near the end of the puzzle...

(Oh absolutely )

Papyrus watched excitedly as Mira began making her way through the puzzle, calling out encouragements occasionally since he truly did want her to succeed. Papyrus was definitely impressed as Mira continued crossing the puzzle without difficulty. Seeing Mira step on the purple tile filled Papyrus with joy; he hoped that she would enjoy the spaghetti he had prepared!

"GREAT JOB, MIRA! YOU JUST EARNED A PLATE OF THE GREAT PAPYRUS'S FAMOUS SPAGHETTI!" Papyrus said cheerfully. And she had nearly finished solving the puzzle too! Truly, they were destined to be good friends!

Sans smiled as he watched Mira solving the puzzle, as well as occasionally glancing at Papyrus, who seemed to be getting more excited by the moment. Perhaps Sans should offer to test out Papyrus's puzzles occasionally, he decided; it certainly seemed to make him happy.

"you won't be able to spa-get-ti over how good it is," Sans couldn't resist commenting after Papyrus announced Mira had earned the spaghetti.

"SANS, NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR YOUR PUNS! THIS IS A TIME FOR CELEBRATION!" Papyrus said, though he didn't sound quite as annoyed as he usually did when he complained about Sans' jokes.

"okay, okay, sorry bro. nothing gets pasta you."

"SAAAANS!"

(OMG it was the spaghetti one?? Yay!)

Mira feeling quite proud of herself for managing to get past the tile puzzle without too much trouble, the human had half been expecting that Papyrus would have put in a prank or something in one of the tiles just because he seemed the type who would for fun.

Or maybe that was more San’s style?...

Stepping on the purple tile though getting her shouts of cheer from Papyrus that she would be getting spaghetti for treading on the area, almost as if it was a bad thing, Mira blushed happily at the apparent encouragement from the kindly skelebro regardless, her soul of love beating happily even with the silly banter between the brother’s as she soon crossed the end of the puzzle in no time.

“See? Told you I could do it~!”, Smiling proudly as she had only messed up a few times by her calculations, Mira wasn’t usually this competitive but she had a strong desire to show she was smart and capable to these monsters, “I got ‘pasta’ it all in one go~”.

Mira and Sans undeniably having a similar sense of humor, it wasn’t so much that the monster’s puns were rubbing off on her as she felt she could be more herself around the short skeleton then she did with her own kind on the surface in a sense.

Was she just imagining it or...were monsters almost kinder than humans in more ways than one?

Now had only been down here for a day but in that time she had been rescued by Sans from almost certainly freezing to death, had met the kindly king of monsters, and had found out she had a soul of pure love..it was a lot for the girl to take in to be honest as she was very much exhausted by this point.

"GREAT JOB, MIRA!" Papyrus said, smiling broadly. Though he sighed at the pun she made, it was clear it hadn't ruined Papyrus's good mood at all. "WELL THEN, ALLOW ME TO GO GET YOUR PRIZE! I HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY IT!" Papyrus announced, rushing off to retrieve the plate of spaghetti which he had left inside the house to ensure it didn't get cold while Mira was solving the puzzle.

"nice work there! my bro is definitely impressed with your puzzle-solving skills," Sans commented after Papyrus ran off, before grinning. "nothing puzzles you for long, does it?"

Noticing Mira seemed tired, he added, "you've had quite a long day, huh? maybe you should get some rest. don't worry about papyrus, i'm sure he won't mind waiting to show you the rest of his puzzles another time."

Sans didn't want Mira pushing herself past her limits just because Papyrus was excited about his puzzles. Papyrus just didn't know what humans' limits were, and Sans knew he'd be devastated if if found out Mira had pushed herself too much because of him.

Only a few moments later, Papyrus returned carrying a large plate of spaghetti, which he presented to Mira as though it were pure gold or something. "HERE IT IS! YOUR PRIZE!" Papyrus said, expression hopeful. While he wasn't entirely sure what kinds of foods humans liked, he hoped spaghetti was on the list somewhere. It was his favorite meal to cook, after all!
