[[ For your entertaining future knowledge, in case you ever want to play chess, it's the queen that gets trapped. XD Anyway, sorry about having to skip over the chess game. I had major WB. ]]

By the end of the game, Aaron had only ended up losing all his pawns, a knight, both his rooks, and one of his bishops. With those remaining pieces, he had won the game. At first, he hadn't started out so well, but once she made that one move, he knew what he was going to do next and how the game was pretty much going to play out. During their long, rather entertaining chess game, his dog had made herself at home on her chair and fell fast asleep. In fact, she was snoring. Having managed to trap Lilia's queen, he decided not to rub in that fact by saying "checkmate" since it was pretty clear he had won.

Instead, he smiled at her as she relaxed and said, "Thanks. You played pretty well too. In the beginning there, I was pretty sure you had me." He chuckled lightly and sat back a bit himself, watching Kida snore. Then he leaned forward and started cleaning up the chess game. "Well, I don't know about you, but all this sitting around has kind of caused my legs to get sleepy. If you're up to it, do you want to maybe go on a walk or something?" At the word walk, Kida was immediately awake and alert, looking around as though they were already heading out the door.

----

Keira couldn't help but raise her eyebrow. "Ciel, do you have any idea how weird you are sometimes?" She sighed and sat forward, a small smile of amusement on her face as she started shuffling through her papers and standing up. "Anyway, I suppose it isn't quite so bad as the first one." Grabbing the ones she needed, she then looked up at him. "I have to go and run your tests. Do you want to come with me, or are you going to stay here?"

[[Are you sure it is the queen who is supposed to be captured? Cause I did play before and usually is the King that is to be captured in order to win the game.. Plus i just googled
And no worries :D ]]

It would be a lot easier to win the game if she still has her two castles but sadly she lost them in the midst of capturing his other pieces. Nevertheless, it was rather a good game and time flies when they were having some fun. Lilia chuckled lightly when she tooo, noticed that Kida had fallen asleep. So adorable for an adolescent German Shepherd.

Her attention was back to Aaron when he began to clean up the chess pieces, placing them into the box again. It was a coincidence that she turned in time to see that he spoke, asking her if she would like to do something else than playing. Shrugging, she really wasn't sure what else to do but a walk seem like good idea at the moment. "Maybe some forest trekking? There are some unmarked path although we don't have to go far into the woods." She had been trekking alone in the forest before but she didn't go too far just in case she got lost and she marked her location just so she can find her way out again.

Lilia stood up, unstable at first since her legs were slightly cramped from sitting cross-legged the entire game. Stretching to relax her muscle, she waited for Aaron to decide.

"What?...The combination sounds legit?" He exclaimed, looking slightly hurt until he was practically acting. He did a lot of thinking before choosing his shift of choice. Smilodon because it was the coolest prehistorical animal. Well, actually he was aiming for a dinosaur but that was too impractical considering how huge a T-Rex was.. But maybe he could consider shrinking the size during the shift. Hmm.. More ideas for future experiment. The DNA was hard to come by but he managed to get a sample of the genetic constitution in order to perfect the shift. But it wasn't as difficult as Qilin/Kirin since those creature was practically a mythological creature. He had to create and change existing DNA of some other creatures to obtain something close to that. Hours spent in the lab and he finally got it. As for the owl.. although it wasn't as impressive as the former two but he wanted some wings to soar into the sky. And an owl didn't seem to be a bad idea. At least he chose a not-so-weird-looking ones.

"I can assure you. They are a work of art." Ciel said. He watched as Keira began to gather some documents, stood up and asked. "Psst.. of course i will go where ever you are. Alone time is boring." He said with a slight hint of flirtatious. "Where to?"

[[ Lol, maybe you're right. I don't know. It's been a while since I've played chess. XD ]]

Cleaning up the chess board really didn't take all that long to do. In fact, he had it done in about 45 seconds. All it really involved was putting the pieces back in the bag, putting the bag and board in the box, and closing it. Once he finished, he stood up, slightly unsteady at first like Lilia until he was able to stretch out his legs a bit and get them used to holding his weight again. After adjusting his shirt a little and running a hand through his hair (which only messed it up a bit more), Aaron smiled at Lilia and listened to her suggestion. Trekking through the forest? Sure! Why not? He's done that plenty of times when he's had nothing else to do, and it seemed like he wasn't the only one who found the idea appealing.

Kida may not have completely understood the whole 'forest trekking' bit, but she still seemed to have the word 'walk' going through her mind on repeat at about a thousand kilometers per hour since she jumped up and was pacing back and forth, expecting them to leave and lead the way to this new adventure. Chuckling slightly at her, Aaron rubbed his wrist a little bit and said to Lilia, "Well, I'm good for that, and Kida seems like she's ready to walk out the door now and go for a run, so it seems like we'll be doing that then. Let me just get her leash, since she's a little more unpredictable and calm in the woods, then we can go."

Aaron turned and headed into the kitchen, grabbing a simple leather leash and bringing it back. He attached it to his dog's collar, and she immediately started to drag him out the door.

----

This time, Keira actually laughed a little at Ciel's reaction. "You heard me." She shuffled the paper's around so that they were easier to carry and glanced back at her partner. Tilting her head slightly, she said teasingly, "Hm... I see your gears turning, which can't be good." He always got this certain look when he started thinking about something serious for future experiments and whatnot, which sometimes led to disastrous results. Her mind flashed back momentarily to that time he had to get a new office after having it destroyed by a hybrid he created from a wolf, bird, and lion. Ah well. That was the point of experiments, she supposed. Just maybe not ones like that. "Work of art or not, just make sure you've got a good handle on them, unlike you did with your, ah, what did you call it? Your 'Liwolfbird,' or something like that. If I recall, that didn't turn out so great, and your smilodon thing nearly became something like that when I visited."

Shaking her head and sighing a little bit, she let a smile return to her face at his other comment. This was probably one of the many reasons she and Ciel had been paired together, the fact that they got along so well. At times, it almost seemed like there was a little more going on between them than just a lap partnership or friendship, which oddly enough, she didn't mind quite so much. They just hadn't really gotten exactly serious about anything like that. Mostly just playing around. "Right. As for where we're going, gee, I don't know, how about the kitchen, because where else do we run tests in this fancy, high-tech genetic research building?" Keira opened the door and passed through, holding it for Ciel to follow, before heading down in the direction of the labs.

((I guess we don't have to care about that since we are finished with the game. ))

Lilia was somehow thrilled when Aaron had agree to go for the walk out in the forest. Nothing could beat the great outdoor. While waiting for Aaron to get leash from somewhere in the kitchen, she rummaged into her backpack to see if there were anything that she could bring along. Taking two energy bars from her bag, she then slipped it into the pocket of her jacket. Luckily she was already dressed to venture into an adventure; a simple white sleeveless shirt with brown windbreaker jacket, black shorts and a pair of sneakers. She left her backpack behind, leaning it against the side of the couch.

The girl chuckled lightly as she watched Kida dragged Aaron impatiently toward the door after he had put the leash on her. It amazed her how Aaron was strong enough to control the German Shepherd. If it was her, she would definitely be dragged off because of how light she was. Lilia followed the pair toward the door. "I see that you like to go on a walk too" She commented.

*** ***

A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he listened to her laughter. He wasn't sure why but he like to hear her laugh especially since it made her face lighted up. Sometimes Ciel couldn't deny that he was somehow attracted to her but they were just lab partners... just friends and nothing more. At least, for now. They got along well with each other and sometimes, colleagues would tease them for acting like a couple but he didn't mind much. They were friends after all and friends, well.. they joked and play around.

"Hey, that is where all the great idea comes from." He exclaimed, feeling slight undignified. Okay maybe it was the truth that some of his ideas..or experiment can be a little weird and out of control and it was what helped him to learn... to find another breakthrough. "Fine.. That hybrid creature is a little out of my expectation." He agreed. The hybrid creature which was a combination of the body, head and tail of a lion, head of a wolf and the wings of a large predator bird wasn't really a successful experiment. He was trying to re-create some chimaera-like creature but somehow after destroying his office in confusion, the creature seem to die which was partially a good thing. Since then, he hadn't attempt anything similar.

"And that is because i was surprised.. Totally still myself." He said, although he was lying about the in control part. At some point, he could only feel blood-lust and the predator instinct taken over him. The experience overwhelmed him but still, he didn't lose consciousness. At least he regained control over to his thoughts afterwards. "Kitchen? Sounds good. I hope you're planning to cook something nice..cause I'm sure hungry." He joked, sliding off the edge of the table and followed Keira out of her room and walking toward the labs as well.

[[ Good point. XD Anyway, sorry for taking so long to reply. Homework and all. It sucks. :/ ]]

Aaron stayed by the door, just managing to restrain Kida from dragging him off into the woods, or down the street, or wherever it was she was wanting to go. She kept tossing impatient glances over her shoulder at him as he held the door for Lilia to go through. Once she was through, he closed and locked the door before following after his friend, his dog walking forward in a hurry. He chuckled at Lilia's comment about going on a walk and replied, "Yeah, that's one way of putting it." He gave the leash a small tug, and Kida got the message. She stopped pulling so much and started walking in a fairly calm manner once again. "There we go..." he muttered, mostly to himself. Now he wouldn't feel like he had to lean back until he was parallel with the ground to keep from being dragged off somewhere.

For a young dog, she was surprisingly strong. Then again, she also had the energy to help fuel her enthusiasm, so that might have something to do with it too. Finally, the silence between him and Lilia was getting rather weird, so Aaron decided to start a conversation, or at least try to anyway. He wasn't that good at things like this, but, well, no better time to learn like the present, right? "So... What are some things you like to do other than read, play chess, and spend time outdoors?" Aaron cast a sideways glance toward Lilia, trying not to cringe from the sudden headache that had just randomly popped up in his head.

--------------------------------------------

Once Ciel was through the door, Keira let it close and made sure it was locked before heading down the hall, only half a step behind her lab partner, friend, or whatever one might call a relationship such as theirs. As she walked, she responded to all he had said on his way out the door, which was a lot. Well, this was Ciel, though. This was one of his many... unique talents. "'Great ideas' is a nice name for some of those things of yours," she said, shaking her head a little. Keira glanced sideways at him, having to look up to see his face since she was a bit shorter. This annoyed her some, but it wasn't her fault and it still had its advantages. "As for the big cat situation at your house, that was a bit... freaky," she continued.

The door to the labs was up ahead, and once they arrived there, she shifted around the papers so she could pull out her key card. Swiping the plastic card through the reader, the doors unlocked and she entered, again holding the door long enough for Ciel to get through. The lab was fairly new, having gone through recent renovations to be updated with some of the latest equipment for their experiments. The upside was that they were able to accomplish new things, the downside being that some stuff had to be rearranged and moved, and she still hadn't quite figured out where everything had been moved yet. Keira set her things down at one of the lab tables and frowned as she started looking around for some things. "Ugh. I hate when they do this. Ciel, can you grab that test tube rack for me please?" She spoke in a mildly irritated manner. This was about the tenth time she found equipment she needed much higher than she could reach. Didn't these people ever take short people into account when designing these things?

((No worries.. Slightly tired from internship anyway so I'm in no rush for replies.. Laziness triumphed every time. ))

Stepping out into the outside world again, she waited patiently for Aaron to shut the door and locked it behind of them. Prancing a little, she then walked ahead to look around until Aaron joined her. Lilia smiled, seeing how eager the German Shepherd was with the walk until she was asked to hold back a little. She breathed the fresh air which was rather pleasant, a perk of being in the countryside. It was not until later that she realized that silence had enveloped around them. Maybe it was because she can't hear that she wont even know if Aaron was talking to her or maybe it was because she wasn't used to be in someone's company. What should she ask or even talk?

She turned around to face him and ask him anything that came into her mind, just in time to see him initiated a talk. "I don't usually play chess." She smiled. "But other than that, usually helping out my mum or trying to bake or just outside, planting and tending the flowers in the garden." She said. "Good source of income too." She added sheepishly. "Hopeless in sewing..." Lilia mumbled quietly.

"How about you? Besides walking Kida that is..." She asked, glancing at the path once a while just so she knew where she tread. The forest path grew wild the further they walk, fallen branches and snaking roots obstructed the ground. The path was narrower at some point while wider at another. Lilia glanced over her shoulder, turning to look at Aaron whenever he was about to speak until she was unaware of the roots that propped out from the ground. Her foot was caught, causing her to trip and was about to fall onto the ground.

**** ****

Although Ciel had already slow down his pace from his usual way of walking, it seemed that Keira would still be slightly slower. Probably because he was way taller and so his legs were longer. A stride from him and Keira would need to walk two to three steps to match his. "Of course.. I'm a genius." He said proudly, joking slightly. He may be a genius but still he knew that there would always be someone who was cleverer than him. Time to be humble. "Well i didn't really time my shift, you know.. It just...popped." He explained, shaking his head while remembering those aching feeling coursing through his body.

"Thank you.." He said when Keira held the door for him. It wasn't really his problem for not being a gentleman and held the door for a lady. It was because he wasn't given the access for this particular lab although he had constantly remind the administration. Probably they were afraid that he was gonna destroy something new in this lab so technically, he was denied any access if unsupervised. He looked around the unfamiliar lab and was slightly amazed with the new technologies. No wonder he wasn't allow to use this. Ciel looked at Keira when he heard his name, walking over to where she stood. Glancing at the cabinet, he raised his hand and grabbed hold of the wooden instrument before handling it over to her. "You're welcome."

"Well, maybe you should drink more milk then. That will help you to grow... Maybe" He joked, smiling whenever he recalled how Keira would try to tiptoed to reach for those equipment that were still out of her reach, only to ask for his help. She looked comical yet adorable. "

((Seem like I'm having some muse to write..XD))

Re: Silvereil & Inspirit || The Awakening

Postby Silvereil » January 21st, 2016, 8:20:50 pm

ooc| Okay, so posting this took a bit longer than I thought it would, so sorry about the wait. My brain's been a little fried because of teachers cramming things in for midterm, but hopefully after next week, I'll be able to start posting a tad bit more frequently again.

Kida seemed to have calmed down a bit more now, which was a nice thing for Aaron. Unfortunately, his headache hadn't, and he was desperately trying to push aside the throbbing pain in his head to try and enjoy the time he had with his friend. Besides, he didn't want to worry her in any way. Aaron rubbed his temple with his hand a little bit on the side away from Lilia as he listened to what she said as she answered his question. He nodded his head and tossed a sideways glance toward her every so often as he listened.

A small laugh came out of him as he listened to her turn his question around toward him, mostly finding the remark about walking Kida amusing. "Well, I'm often home by myself, so I did teach myself to cook, or at least well enough to be able to make myself an edible dinner. It did take me a few tries though. Hm... Let's see..." Aaron trailed off for a moment, thinking of what else he did for fun or liked to do. Now that he really thought of it, there wasn't much, which was kind of sad to think about. "Well, there's not a lot, actually. I spend most of my time with Kida, and I do like reading. Oh! I play guitar sometimes, but other than that, not much." He shrugged lightly, making a mental note to himself that he should perhaps try to find some more hobbies.

Then he heard the sound of snapping twigs and looked over just in time to see Lilia trip on a root. Reacting quicker than most normal humans might, Aaron lunged out and caught her as gently as he could, stumbling slightly himself but managing to keep both of them upright. "Whoa! Are you okay?" he asked, a concerned look on his face as he managed to get her on her feet again. His heart was beating from the adrenaline rush, and he registered that he still had her hugged to his chest from when he caught her. Realizing this, he let her go and awkwardly mumbled, "Er, sorry about that..."

**** ****

Keira gave Ciel a certain look that said really? when he made his milk comment. "You know, I was going to say thank you, and then you said that." However, she couldn't help but smile a bit and shake her head as she took the rack and set it next to her before beginning to place the tubes in it. "And for your future information, milk really only strengthens the bones. It doesn't make them grow." She sorted out the tubes she could test right now and the tubes she had to wait to test. Taking the tubes she could test right now, she walked over to one of the newer machines in the lab, a new model mass spectrometer. This would tell her the chemical contents of the sample.

She inserted the first vial and set the machine before turning it on. It would take a few minutes, so she put the rest of the tubes in a tube rack next to it and then walked back over to where Ciel was standing. Thinking back to when they were first entering the lab, she said, "Not to rub salt in the wounds or anything, but you can't exactly blame them for not giving you an access card to this lab." She raised her eyebrow, an amused glint flashing through her eyes. "You've built up quite the reputation of having bad things happen to your work places."

Her thoughts momentarily wandered to conversations she's overheard in the break room when Ciel wasn't there. Many of the employees saw him as a bit of a loose canon, but they clearly didn't know Ciel as well as she did. Others, mostly female employees, found that... attractive? Keira wasn't sure what to call it. It was some sort of attraction, and oddly enough, this bothered her a little bit as well. Ciel was her partner, and her best friend. Okay, so that's a little childish, but she couldn't help it. They've been working together for so long it's just kind of become ingrained in her or something. Keira realized she drifted off again in thought and blinked. "Anyway, what are you planning on doing today after we get out of here?'

((No worries and take your time with replies since looks like I'm kind of lazy as well.
3 more weeks to go and I'll be finishing my internship ))

Everything was happening so fast but usually she would be able to react faster. However, today, she seemed to lack concentration to register this fast enough. She was too busy with concentrating lip reading on Aaron that she failed to be aware of her surrounding. Lilia braced herself for the fall but somehow, her body never meet the ground but someone had grasp hold of her, pulling her back. Staggering slightly, her feet was trying to get hold of the ground until she was firmly standing again.

When her mind finally registered, her heart was already pounding hard against her chest from the excitement. Not only that, she flushed when she realised she was in his embrace. Her face rested against his chest and she could feel his heart beating fast as well. For some reason, she didn't feel like pushing him away and somehow felt slightly secure to have him hold her like that. It wasn't until he let go of her that she snapped back into reality and didn't really caught any words from him. "Oh my.. Sorry about that. Guess I should be looking on where I'm walking. Anyway, thank you for your help." She said sheepishly, her right hand rubbing her arm awkwardly. "You're fast." She added.

After calming herself down, she started to remember their conversation just before she almost fell down."Anyway, I would love to try your cooking one day.. I'm sure it will be alright" She teased, trying to lighten up the mood. "And maybe hear you play the guitar...if i could.." She mumbled to herself when she turned her head to look at the other side.
"So, shall we continue?" She asked, smiling at Aaron.

*** ***

Ciel shrugged.. "I was just joking.. Sheez, don't take everything so seriously." He said.
Watching as she worked, he smiled lightly. "Fine... Sorry but biology isn't really my forte.." He answered but he mentally remember to take note on that so that he won't repeat his previous mistake for stating the wrong facts. He leaned gently against the counter, watching as Keira walked over to some machine to store vial.

"Hmm..It would be easy to hack the system...I guess." He sneered, finding it slightly amusing that something that easy could guard him against accessing the lab but he wasn't that free to try and attempt that. Most importantly, he wasn't that childish to play around. "But my lab is already well equipped so this is safe." He reasoned.

The question had slightly took him off guard and he blinked in confusion at her with a "Ha?" escaped from his mouth. After a while, he gave it a thought.. Hmm.. What day was today? He snapped his finger and smiled secretly when he remembered. "Hey, it was dinner at your house today... Don't think you can get off this easily." He proclaimed, his voice was slightly louder than usual. Since both of them were busy on normal days, they had come to an agreement to cook for each other at least once a week, on turns.. And this time, it was Keira's turn. "Don't tell me you have a date or something tonight?" He questioned, an eyebrow raised with curiosity.

ooc| Okay, I am doing terribly with this whole reply-soon thing... I guess blizzards and exams and a lack of sleep don't mix well...

So that had been kind of an awkward moment, yet Aaron didn't mind it. It was kind of weird, the feeling he had gotten with her in his arms. It was something he hadn't felt before. Well, to be honest, he hadn't held too many others in his arms, unless you count Kida, and this was very different from holding a dog. It was nice, and it made him feel... happy? That was the only word that came to mind that might possibly describe this feeling. Aaron scratched the back of his neck, feeling just as awkward and confused as Lilia seemed to be feeling right now, yet some part of him deep down kind of wished that hug had been intentional.

Well, maybe it would be later. Somewhere, he told himself that would happen later on, and that he'd be friends with Lilia for that long. The sound of her quiet comment pulled Aaron back to the present and he nodded, actually a little surprised at how fast he had moved. "Thanks," he said, trying not to look too surprised or puzzled. He hadn't actually moved so fast before, and he was pretty sure if he hadn't been that quick, she would have fallen. Maybe it's another one of those really weird side effects of the medicine, he told himself. It was generally what he used to explain most things he couldn't explain now these days.

Aaron smiled a little at Lilia's comment about wanting to try his cooking. "Well, I can tell you it won't be five-star restaurant quality, but at least it's edible." He nodded as she suggested they continue and started walking again. Kida had been sniffing around as far as her leash would let her go, and once they started moving again, she lifted her head and followed.

*** ***

Keira glanced over at the machine, which was quietly whirring. At Ciel's response, she turned her gaze back onto him and raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean it's my turn? I cooked last week! Remember?" She tilted her head and raised an eyebrow slightly at his suggestion. Their arrangement was pretty neat, and she had to say she enjoyed it. The only downside was when it was her turn, she never had anything planned out and always had to quickly come up with a decent recipe hours before. The machine gave a few small beeps, signifying that it was done. Turning around, Keira went over and pulled out what was left of the samples she had been testing.

She went back over and checked her computer for the results. Everything looked good, which was always nice to see. If there were any strange chemicals in there that shouldn't be, then it meant there was something wrong, and depending on the chemical, it could mean that person's life was in danger. But thankfully, as said before, these results were normal, or at least as normal for someone who had animal genes in them could be. As she looked over some of the other results, she went on. "Besides, even if I had a date, it would be for one night. We could always make it up the next night." Glancing back toward her friend with a mischievous smile, she said, "Why? You jealous?"

((Me either so we are sort of even.. No worries. XD))

Lilia reached up to cup her cheeks, feeling the heat from her flushed cheeks. Her heart was still pounding from the adrenaline rush. Somehow she felt fluttery...something that she never experience before. But soon, she calmed herself and put the feeling at the back of her mind. She chuckled softly when she saw his comment. "No worries since I never try any five-star rated food before so anything edible is good enough." She commented. Well, they always need to make ends meet so something expensive was really out of the picture.

Smiling, she followed after Aaron, keeping her eyes focused in front of her so that she wouldn't trip once again. It would definitely be an embarrassment if she was to trip another time. Lilia stopped when she saw the bushes rustled at the corner of her eyes. She continued to watch and was taken aback when a squirrel scrambled out and stopped a few meter away from them. It sniffed and watched, chattering before running off to the nearby tree, climbing up the trunk and disappeared beneath the foliage. "That's interesting." She mumbled.

"Hey, do you know if there is a river nearby? Or even a waterfall?" She turned to ask, eyes sparkled with interest.

Ciel scratched his head and gave it a little thought.
"Hmm...Well, I don't really remember." He briefly answered. While he was brilliant and clever when it was about solving the impossibles but for something as simple as remembering meals, he would easily forget about it. "Fine.. Since you say it that way.. I'll cook. So my house tonight then." He concluded after a while.

He leaned against the cabinet, watching as Keira tend to the machine when it stopped, checking on the vials for the result. "So...How's the result, Dr.Keira?" He asked.

Ciel couldn't help but chuckle at her questions. "Not really i guess.. Just pitying whoever it is that has to bring you to the date." Despite saying that, he could feel a little sour aftermath.
