Ah yes also forgot to mention, virtuadopt, another adoptable site based on clicks. They recently switched back to banner ad revenue as neobux to pay for the server wasn't generating enough income. Some keen donators hated the ads so much, they joined together and donated enough to cover the server costs for the next 3 months so they don't have to see ads.
Y'know, it's not as though those of us who don't want ads aren't contributing. Granted, my username is oeange because I moderate the HoS...but it was purple before that. Donor purple. And I've increased my donation pending since that first month on the site, not decreased it. As I mentioned prior, I already pay about $80-$100 monthly to the site and so does another family member. Given that, I don't think it's unreasonable to be peeved if those who aleady put a significant amount of money into the site aren't given an alternative to ads.

that's why "ad-free for donors" has been suggested so often.

don't get me wrong- i HATE ads- on websites, on TV (the rare times i watch it), on the car radio, even billboards bug the shit out of me. but if it comes down to magistream + ads or no magistream at all, i'll take the ads. i too have been a pretty big donator, but even if "ad-free" doesn't end up as a donor perk, i'll put up with them if it keeps the site online.

I see that Tristan made some new features. It may help with making people more active, and if he releases a doni potion for a shard or two, more people will want to donate.

About the ads, we should try something that doesn't annoy people too much(i.e. an ad that appears in the middle of the screen with sound. Those are really annoying). If it appeared in a page or at the bottom af the forum, people would be ok, I think. Anyway, whoever donates or has already donated shouldn't get any ads, and people who can't donate can hide them. I know it's not simple and this situation is very serious, but we should at least try with this.

Me, too! I hate ads but if they are the only way to go, then go for it. I don't want to lose this site since it's one of the best online (even if the eggs look so small - I've got bad eyesight). I will always be a donor here. I may not donate as much as I used to because those jerks at work cut my hours back, way back! but I do the best I can. Lately it's taken forever to hatch eggs (twitter's not helping any more).

Has there been an update yet from Tristan on how it's going? Or do we wake up to the horror of it being gone? (shudders at the thought).

If we do get features like a doni breeding potion, subscriptions, extra egg slots for shards, etc. it might be a good idea to allow people to buy them for other people (or make them tradable somehow). Not make the shards tradable, if I remember right there's some law that makes that just not worth messing with, but if donis can be tradable I imagine other things bought with shards (egg slot, breeding potion) could be as well, as could services bought with shards (subscriptions, or possibly extra egg slots/faster hatching, depending on how they're designed). Or (possibly more likely) the services could just be outright bought for someone else. Apart from just making more options, it will also probably get a few more donations, particularly with the egg slot and subscription; if someone wants to breed donis but can't donate they can just send the pair to someone who will breed them (and then pay the donor for using the eggslot), but subscriptions and other services would be harder to use that way, so if more people than donors can get them, I imagine more will be sold.

That... probably wasn't the most coherent explanation, but. Hopefully it made some sense, anyway.

I don't know if it's possible but perhaps non-donors gets ads for the month until MS has enough donations to cover its monthly server costs, then the ads are taken down? Dunno if that made sense or not.

I don't know if there's a point, now. There's 16 days left until taxes are due, and really, Ferrets will probably get enough revenue in that it should be enough. xD

This was definitely good timing for ferrets....

It's just like I said a few pages ago. They were waiting for the right time to give us what we wanted.

Okay, it might be me going at it again, but I really want to donate. I can't put funds on my PayPal, but I do have a PaySafeCard for 50 Euro. There is a way to transfer money from it onto PayPal, but I'd loose 20 Euro in the process. And that is something I'm not going to do.
I'd suggest making alternatives on donating possibilities, such as PaySafeCard, since it's available almost everywhere and there are no special means of purchasing it. Even a 10-year old could donate that way.
I have no idea if it'd be hard to do it, though. I hope it wouldn't be.
